Schweizer Optik

SCHWEIZER is one of the oldest owner-managed companies in the optics industry. The company was founded in 1840. It developed from the establishment of a glass grinding shop and the production of optical products (since 1900 SCHWEIZER produces magnifiers and reading glasses) into a specialist in various fields. Today, SCHWEIZER employs more than 100 employees at its headquarters in Forchheim. In the field of ophthalmic optics, SCHWEIZER is the specialist 'when glasses are no longer enough'. The user-friendly product developments are pioneering for the ophthalmic optics market. Through experience, competence and customer satisfaction, SCHWEIZER has established itself worldwide in over 40 countries as a specialist in various niches and leads Europe's largest range of special visual aids. All glass lenses, (illuminated) magnifiers and low vision lights are manufactured in-house in Forchheim, Upper Franconia. The low vision range also includes electronic visual aids, special spectacle lenses, telescope systems and fitting aids.

The company was founded in 1840 by Abraham Schweizer in Fürth. Initially producing metal toys and optical toys, soon after spectacle frames. In 1852, the range was expanded with French imported glasses. In 1853, Schweizer and Buverier founded the Royal Bavarian Privileged Steel Spectacle Factory. In 1858, 200 employees produced about 1,200 nickel spectacles per week. After Abraham Schweizer's death in 1866, his wife Karoline and sons Max and Albert took over management. In 1877, Schweizer acquired a disused mirror glass grinding shop in Forchheim and began its own spectacle lens production. Since 1900, SCHWEIZER produces magnifiers and reading glasses.
