Overview

The Schweizer Institut für Psychotraumatologie (SIPT) GmbH is a Swiss continuing-education institute based in Winterthur that focuses on psychotraumatology. Founded in 2006, it provides further training, supervision and research for psychotherapists, counsellors, educators and other professionals who encounter traumatised people in their work. Its programme emphasises psychodynamic concepts and is certified by the Schweizer Charta für Psychotherapie and the Deutsches Institut für Psychotraumatologie (DIPT). Participants can also earn a CAS in Psychotraumatology through the Swiss Campus – Internationales Institut für Gesundheit, Kommunikation und Entwicklung. SIPT's courses are recognised by the Föderation der Schweizer Psychologinnen und Psychologen (FSP); units completed in its CAS certificate course in trauma therapy and in the specialist psychotherapy training for psychotraumatology can be credited toward an FSP title. The institute works in cooperation with the DIPT and the Zentrum für interdisziplinäre Therapien in Konstanz, and since 2014 also with the Zentrum für Trauma- und Konfliktmanagement (ZTK) in Cologne and the Institut für Trauma-Bearbeitung und Weiterbildung in Frankfurt. The institute positions itself as a specialist provider for professionals who need additional qualification in recognising psychotraumatic syndromes and their comorbidities, managing trauma sequelae including psychoeducational measures, crisis intervention and treatment planning. Its public course calendar includes topics such as trauma-sensitive mindfulness for children and adolescents, creative methods in therapy and counselling, and work with traumatised parents. SIPT is a small private GmbH rather than a listed company, and its activities are concentrated in the Swiss and German-speaking professional training market.

History

The Schweizer Institut für Psychotraumatologie (SIPT) GmbH was founded in 2006 and is headquartered in Winterthur, Switzerland. From its inception it has worked in cooperation with the Deutsches Institut für Psychotraumatologie (DIPT) and the Zentrum für interdisziplinäre Therapien in Konstanz. In 2014 the cooperation network was expanded to include the Zentrum für Trauma- und Konfliktmanagement (ZTK) in Cologne and the Institut für Trauma-Bearbeitung und Weiterbildung in Frankfurt. The institute was established to address the needs of trauma victims by providing further training for various professional groups confronted with traumatised people in their work. Its training concept focuses on psychodynamic concepts and requires professionals working with trauma victims to be trained beyond their basic professional qualification in recognising psychotraumatic syndromes and their comorbidities, handling trauma sequelae including psychoeducational measures, crisis intervention and planning adequate treatment strategies. SIPT's courses are certified by the Schweizer Charta für Psychotherapie and the DIPT. Participants can also obtain a CAS in Psychotraumatology through the Swiss Campus – Internationales Institut für Gesundheit, Kommunikation und Entwicklung. The institute's CAS certificate course in trauma therapy and its specialist psychotherapy training for psychotraumatology are recognised by the Föderation der Schweizer Psychologinnen und Psychologen (FSP), and units completed in these courses can be credited toward an FSP title. Over the years SIPT has built a continuing-education programme for psychotherapists, counsellors, educators and other professionals. Its public course offerings have included topics such as trauma-sensitive mindfulness for stabilisation and regulation in traumatised children and adolescents, creative methods in therapy and counselling, and work with traumatised parents. The institute continues to operate as a private GmbH based in Winterthur.
