Schlossbrauerei Hirschau

Schlossbrauerei Hirschau is a brewery in Hirschau whose history is tied to the Dorfner brewing family. According to the brewery, it has been in family ownership since its founding over 200 years ago and is now run in the eighth generation. The brewery's history begins on 20 October 1812, when Andreas Dorfner acquired the private brewing right; the Pflegschloss he purchased was converted into a brewery during 1817. The brewery offers a range of beers and lemonades and also provides brewery tours, events, and a blog.

According to the brewery, it has been in family ownership since its founding over 200 years ago and is now run in the eighth generation. It began on 20 October 1812, when Andreas Dorfner acquired the private brewing right; brewing had already been practiced in the family for many decades before that under the communal brewing right granted by the town of Hirschau to local innkeepers in turn. The Pflegschloss purchased by Andreas Dorfner was converted into a brewery during 1817. His son Florian Dorfner took over the brewery in 1825 and had, among other things, a one-kilometer-long water pipeline laid from the Walkweiher to ensure a constant water supply. In 1863 Johann Dorfner received the brewery from his uncle, and in 1874 he bequeathed it to his son Josef Vitus Dorfner, who greatly expanded the brewery, especially after the turn of the century, and expanded the malthouse. From 1914 Franz Karl Dorfner led the brewery through difficult times; after his death in 1943 his wife Magdalena Dorfner took over until 1955. Franz Dorfner received the brewery in 1955. In 1958 the bottling plant and distillery were newly built, and the following year the storage cellar was enlarged. His most important decision led in 1967 to the complete rebuilding of the brewery, which was completed two years later.
