Overview

The Schesaplanahütte (also known as Schesaplanahaus) is a mountain hut of the Swiss Alpine Club (SAC), operated by its Pfannenstiel section. It stands at 1,908 metres above sea level on the south flank of the Schesaplana in the canton of Graubünden, Switzerland, about 14 km north-east of Seewis im Prättigau. Built in 1898, the hut is a long-established base for hikers and ski tourers in the Rätikon range. The hut offers 63 sleeping places and is staffed during the summer season from June to mid-October. In winter, a winter room remains open for ski tourers. It is a stage point on the four-day Prättigauer Höhenweg trekking route (marked No. 72) from Klosters to Seewis im Prättigau and on the cross-border Via Alpina hiking trail; the neighbouring hut on the Höhenweg is the Carschinahütte. A steep, white-blue-white marked ascent leads from the hut to the summit of the Schesaplana in about 3¼ hours, recommended only for experienced and sure-footed mountain hikers and secured with ropes in the most difficult sections. In summer the hut is also an attractive destination for bikers. Access routes include from Seewis im Prättigau via the forest road over Cani in 4 hours; from Fanas with the Eggli aerial cableway (advance booking required) via Ludera, Egg and Vordersäss in 3½ hours; from Malans with the Älplibahn (advance booking required) via Kamm, Alp Ijes, Sanalada and Alp Fasons in 6½ hours; from Malbun (Liechtenstein) via Pfälzerhütte and Grosse Furgga in 6 hours; and from Brand (Vorarlberg) via the Lünerseebahn and Cavelljoch in 3½ hours. All approaches are marked white-red-white. The hut is documented in alpine literature, including Manfred Hunziker's guide Ringelspitz/Arosa/Rätikon (SAC Verlag, 2010). Its official website presents it as "Schesaplanahütte – 1908 m.ü.M."
