Schaffrath-Gruppe

Schaffrath-Gruppe is a German furniture retail chain. According to its corporate history, it began in 1961 when Friedhelm Schaffrath opened his first lamp and lighting store in Rheydt, and it developed from a lamp and lighting business into a corporate group in the home and furnishing market. The company operates Wohnkaufhäuser (home-furnishing stores) and kitchen markets, and its history page states that around 1,400 employees and 100 apprentices stand for the Schaffrath brand. Its website presents categories including furniture, kitchens, textiles, household goods, decoration, carpets and lighting, and offers made-to-measure kitchen planning.

According to the company's own history page, Schaffrath has developed over 65 years from a lamp and lighting business into a strong corporate group in the home and furnishing market. In 1961 Friedhelm Schaffrath opened his first lamp and lighting store in Rheydt; later a carpet department and upholstered furniture were added, described as the birth of the Schaffrath-Gruppe. In 1967 the first Schaffrath Wohnkaufhaus opened on Theodor-Heuss-Straße in Mönchengladbach. In 1970 expansion followed in Krefeld, and in 1984 Schaffrath opened what the page describes as the largest Wohnkaufhaus in Düsseldorf, the state capital of North Rhine-Westphalia. Between 1993 and 1997, branches followed in Heinsberg, Moers and a "Casa Natura"; in 1997 a further large Wohnkaufhaus opened in Krefeld at Niedieckstraße 7. The history also mentions the integration of Knuffmann and Sijben in the Netherlands, and states that today around 1,400 employees and 100 apprentices stand for the Schaffrath brand.
