Overview
Sanyu REC Co., Ltd. is a Japanese specialty chemical manufacturer specializing in compounded synthetic resins, particularly epoxy and urethane formulations. The company traces its origins to 1958, when a synthetic resin plant was established within Sanyu Kogyo Co., Ltd. (now Sanyu Industrial Co., Ltd.) and began producing and selling an epoxy compound resin branded "Sanyu Resin." In 1963, Sanyu Resin Co., Ltd. was incorporated as a joint venture between Sanyu Kogyo and Shell Chemical Co., Ltd. with capital of 30 million yen. The company became a wholly owned subsidiary of Sanyu Kogyo in 1966 and later received investment from the Osaka Small and Medium Business Investment & Consultation Co., Ltd. in 1970. Over the following decades, Sanyu REC expanded its technical capabilities and international footprint. It entered technical tie-ups with CONAP in the United States (1973) and with Taiwan Sanyu Resin Co., Ltd. (1974), and later with South Korea's Dongseo Petroleum (1987). In 1984, Nihon REC Co., Ltd. was established as a wholly owned subsidiary of Sanyu Kogyo, operating on the premises of Sanyu Resin. In 2001, Sanyu Resin and Nihon REC merged to form Sanyu REC Co., Ltd. with capital of 75 million yen. The company subsequently established overseas operations in Malaysia (1996, 2008), China (2003), India (2012), Thailand (2020), and Italy (2021), and opened a representative office in Taiwan in 2024. Sanyu REC positions itself as a "compound resin manufacturer" that develops and produces customized resins in small lots and many varieties — a niche that larger chemical companies often find difficult to serve. Its products span electrical and electronic materials, semiconductor materials, construction and civil engineering materials, industrial adhesives, and composite materials. The company reports that its resins are used in the substrates of a widely distributed consumer product, where it holds approximately 70% of the global share for that application. It has obtained ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certifications, as well as IATF 16949 for automotive quality management. In 2018, Sanyu REC became an operating company under Sanyu Holdings Co., Ltd. as part of a management restructuring. It is headquartered in Takatsuki, Osaka, and reported domestic sales of approximately 11.4 billion yen for its 23rd fiscal term (2023), a 10% increase over the previous year. The company operates overseas bases or technical partnerships in South Korea, China, Italy, India, Malaysia, and Thailand. In 2025, it made Fuji Chemical Industry Co., Ltd. a subsidiary. Sanyu REC continues to pursue its corporate vision of "creating the future through the power of mixing," emphasizing harmony among stakeholders and sustainable value creation.
