History

Sanada KOA Corporation traces its origins to January 1939, when Denki Kagaku Kenkyusho Co., Ltd. was established. In October 1948 the company changed its name to Tama Denki Kogyo Co., Ltd. It opened the Ueda Plant in March 1957 and the Meguro Plant in December 1958. In March 1960 it succeeded in developing Japan's first vacuum-deposition metal film resistor (MF). In May 1975 it developed and began selling an automotive level indicator switch (LIS). In June 1976, responding to a request from the National Space Development Agency of Japan, it developed and obtained certification for a reliability-assured metal film fixed resistor (RNR) and began sales. In October 1980 it began selling metal oxide varistors (MOV). In June 1982 it opened the Sanada Plant. In June 1987 it developed and began selling multilayer chip varistors (MCV). In December 1988 its shares were registered over-the-counter with the Japan Securities Dealers Association, and capital was increased to 1,283.5 million yen. In February 2000 it obtained ISO14001 certification. In August 2001, through a share exchange with KOA Corporation, it became a wholly owned subsidiary of that company. In April 2002 its sales division was integrated into KOA Corporation. In July 2002 its head office function was moved from Meguro to the Fuchu facility. In June 2015 consolidation of the two sites, Sanada no Sato and the Fuchu facility, was completed. In May 2018 it obtained IATF16949 certification. In May 2024 it developed and began selling a multilayer chip varistor (NV73S).
