San-A Miyakojima City

Miyakojima City (宮古島シティ) is a shopping center in Miyakojima, Okinawa Prefecture, Japan, operated by the Okinawan retail company SAN-A CO.,LTD. Its official page lists floor guides, shop lists, flyers, store notices, topics and event information, with opening hours of 9:00–22:00 (some specialty stores differ), telephone 0980-73-8800, and address 2511-43 Hirara Shimozato, Miyakojima City. SAN-A traces its origins to a general-goods store founded in Miyakojima and today operates food, clothing, household goods and restaurant businesses across Okinawa.

SAN-A CO.,LTD. states that its predecessor was a privately run general-goods store, "Orita Shoten," founded in January 1950 by the late Kisaku Orita in Miyakojima City (formerly Hirara City), Okinawa Prefecture. In May 1970 the company was established as SAN-A CO.,LTD. in Naha City, Okinawa Prefecture, and in July of the same year it opened its "Naha Store." The company's history page records subsequent steps including the 1985 relocation of its head office to Ginowan City, a 1989 membership in the Nichiryu group, a 1995 franchise agreement with Daiichi (now Edion) to begin home-appliance sales, the 2002 opening of Naha Main Place, listing on the Tokyo Stock Exchange in 2005 and 2006, and various franchise and license agreements.
