Samsung Securities employee-share distribution error
On 8 April 2018, a dividend-processing mistake caused Samsung Securities to issue approximately 2.8 billion shares instead of the intended cash payment of 1,000 Korean won to participants in an employee stock-ownership plan. The mistakenly issued shares were valued in the cited material at approximately 112.6 trillion Korean won. Some recipients sold shares, while the company's stock price fell by about 11 percent during the day. The incident raised serious questions about internal controls and settlement safeguards. The company later stated that it would file criminal complaints against employees who sold the shares.
