Salzburger Aluminium AG

Salzburger Aluminium AG (SAG Group) is an internationally active manufacturer of high-quality aluminium components for the automotive, commercial vehicle and railway industries. Since 1992 it has supplied international customers with aluminium components, and it produces aluminium tanks, cryogenic tank systems and other aluminium components. The company traces its origins to 1898, when Salzburger Aluminium was established by AIAG and Schweizerische Metallurgische Gesellschaft (later Alusuisse) and a third European aluminium electrolysis plant was built at the Lend site.

In 1992 a management buy-out was carried out by Dipl.Ing. Josef Wöhrer and family as well as other members of the management at that time. In 1993 Alutech GmbH was founded, expanding the product portfolio to aluminium fuel tanks and aluminium compressed air tanks. In 2001 companies in the Netherlands, France and Sweden were acquired and SAG Alutech Nederland B.V., SAG France SAS and SAG Fueltech Sweden AB were established. In 2008 the group structure was reorganised: SAG became a holding company, the SAG Motion Group was established for the commercial vehicle, automotive, rail and aviation sectors, and the SAG Materials Group was established for metallurgical research and smelting production and sales activities. In 2010 a successful restructuring process was implemented. In 2012 SAG Brasil Ltda was founded with a production facility in Jaguariuna (Sao Paolo), and SAG Business Improvement GmbH was founded as a shared service unit. In 2014 the SAG Brasil production facility was commissioned and the Ranshofen site was sold for strategic reasons. In 2016 the SAG Spain production plant was founded in Alcala de Henares, Madrid (managed by SAG France), and Aluminium Lend GmbH was sold. In 2017 the Mexican companies SAG Mecasa S.A. de C.V. and Mecalaser S.A. de C.V. were fully taken over. In 2018 the two Mexican sites in Monterrey and Tlalnepantla were renamed.
