Overview
Sadaka-Reut (Hebrew: סדאקה-רעות; Arabic: صداقة - رعوت) is an Israeli Jewish-Arab youth movement and educational organization that promotes partnership between Arab and Jewish youth. It was founded in 1983 by Jewish and Palestinian students and social activists, and registered as an association (amuta) in 1987. Its center is in Jaffa, where its offices have been located since 2001. The movement describes itself as educating youth and young adults to act for change out of binational partnership and for the advancement of an egalitarian and just society. It has operated for over 40 years, aiming to grow a generation that works for change. Its educational approach is based on dialogic education for social and political change, allowing young people to examine their personal-political reality and act within it. Sadaka-Reut runs a range of educational programs adapted to different groups and frameworks, from long-term processes to short workshops, including school programs, one-time lectures, peak days, tours, and training for educational staff. It is known as an educational organization focused on binational education, combating racism, and education for social-political activism, and is described as one of the few binational organizations in Israel for youth. Its main projects include a youth project with uni-national and binational activities and education for local activism; "Leshem Shinui" (For a Change), a binational activist community volunteering in Jaffa as a model for joint Palestinian-Jewish activity; and "Gemini," a binational project of dialogue and activity on campuses of several Israeli higher-education institutions. The movement also organizes professional courses to train facilitators of binational groups and runs binational activity in cooperation with other civil-society organizations in disadvantaged communities. Its activities aim to educate young activists for political and social involvement, working toward a vision of a shared society based on equality, solidarity and justice, while challenging existing narratives and discourse regarding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The movement works against discrimination and for civil equality in Israel. It operates across the country, including Jaffa, Netanya, Kafr Qasim, Kalansuwa, Wadi Ara, Beit Berl College, Achva College and Tel Aviv.
