History
SachsenEnergie AG was formed in early 2021 through the merger of Drewag (Dresdner Stadtwerke) and ENSO, the energy provider for regions outside Dresden. The merger combined Dresden's municipal utility with a broader Saxon energy supplier, creating a unified regional provider. The company's headquarters at Friedrich-List-Platz 2 in Dresden has a long history as an energy company site, dating back to 1923 when it was the seat of the Aktiengesellschaft Sächsische Werke, followed by the Energiebezirk Ost, the Energiekombinat Dresden, and after 1990 the ESAG and later ENSO. The City-Center office building at the corner of Friedrich-List-Platz and Bayrische Straße was constructed by 1996. In July 2022, a new extension building (parts E–F) was occupied, approximately 51 meters high with 18,000 square meters of office space for 900 employees, costing about 74 million euros. The adjacent City-Center (parts A–D) was renovated and completed in 2024, connected to the extension by a glass bridge, and now houses a SachsenEnergie customer center, a supermarket and other shops. The DREWAG – Stadtwerke Dresden GmbH was merged into SachsenEnergie as of July 1, 2026. The company operates through numerous subsidiaries including SachsenNetze GmbH, SachsenNetze HS.HD GmbH, SachsenServices GmbH, SachsenEnergieBau GmbH, SachsenGigaBit GmbH, SachsenIndustriewasser GmbH, Energieanlagen Frank Bündig GmbH, Systematics Network Services GmbH, and others. It employs over 4,000 people including subsidiaries.
