S.A. Poonawala

S.A. Poonawala is a furniture and appliance rental service based in Secunderabad, India, founded in 1940. It operates in Hyderabad and Secunderabad, offering rentals of furniture, appliances, and related items. The company is run by three generations and has over 86 years of experience.

S.A. Poonawala was founded in 1940 in Secunderabad, then a British cantonment city, as one of the first furniture-on-hire businesses in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad. The business grew during the post-independence expansion, serving government officers, military families, and business households. Through the 1950s and 60s, it established its own premises near Parklane. As Hyderabad modernised through the 1980s and 90s, the catalog expanded to include televisions, refrigerators, washing machines and other home appliances. The IT boom of the 2000s brought new customers including software engineers, startups, and PG operators.
