Overview

Rosenberg Ventilatoren GmbH is a German industrial manufacturer specialising in climate and ventilation technology. Founded in 1981 by Karl Rosenberg in the Künzelsau district of Gaisbach (Baden-Württemberg), the company develops, produces and distributes controllable external-rotor motors, fans and air-handling units. Its headquarters in Gaisbach house the central administration, engineering and production of EC and AC motors and fans, while the engineering and production of air-handling units have been located at Plant 3 in Glaubitz, Saxony, since 2001. The company is the core of the wider Rosenberg Group, which operates production sites and sales offices in more than 45 countries and employs roughly 1,700 people worldwide, generating revenue of around 240 million euros. Rosenberg's product range covers a broad spectrum of ventilation and air-conditioning equipment: radial, axial, duct, roof and tube fans; door air curtains; external-rotor motors; box-type air-conditioning units with heat recovery; and the control and regulation devices needed to operate them. The portfolio is manufactured mainly in the group's own production facilities. The company serves two principal customer groups: the technical building equipment (TGA) sector, with energy-efficient fans, modular and compact air-handling units and door air curtains, and OEM customers, to whom it supplies free-running impellers, housed radial fans and axial fans for use in air conditioners, hygienic units, cleanroom filter units, heat pumps, condensers, coolers, evaporators and chillers. Since 2005 the company has placed particular emphasis on energy-saving EC motors and fans, which are designed to achieve efficiency levels above 90 percent and to save up to 50 percent energy compared with conventional DC motors. The group's international footprint includes production sites in France, Hungary, Germany, Italy, Austria, the Czech Republic and the United States, alongside sales subsidiaries in around 50 countries. In 2023, to secure its future, the Rosenberg Group was transferred into the Karl Rosenberg Stiftung (Karl Rosenberg Foundation), which promotes the identity and culture of the group as a family business and supports charitable organisations, particularly in science, research, art, culture and social projects in the group's regional environment.

History

Rosenberg Ventilatoren GmbH was founded in 1981 by Karl Rosenberg, a former employee of Ziehl-Abegg, in the Künzelsau district of Gaisbach in Baden-Württemberg. The company initially focused on the development and production of controllable external-rotor motors and fans. Production of external-rotor motors began in 1987. To reduce dependence on external-rotor motors, the company started producing air-conditioning units in 1990. In 1993, Rosenberg began producing hand-wound stators at its Czech site in Klenci. The product portfolio in air-conditioning was expanded in 1995 with the start of production of box-type air-conditioning units in Tokodaltáró, Hungary; three years later the production area there was expanded to 10,000 m². In 2000, a new product line for box-type air-conditioning units was added in Glaubitz, Saxony, where the engineering and production of air-handling units have been based since 2001. International expansion began early: in 1983 Rosenberg founded its first foreign subsidiaries. For the French market, the company Airpro — today Rosenberg France SARL — was established in Lyon; Rosenberg holds 34 percent of that company. The Netherlands is served by Rosenberg Niederlande in Den Dolder. In 1998 sales offices followed in the Russian cities of Moscow, St. Petersburg and Novosibirsk. The Australian market has been served since 2003 by a subsidiary in Melbourne, and in the same year the Chinese market began to be served from a branch in Shanghai. With the founding of branches in Kiev (Rosenberg Ukraina) and Dubai (Rosenberg Middle East) in 2004, the Ukrainian and Arab markets were opened up. The group also grew through acquisitions and joint ventures. The Spanish company airtècnics, based in Castellar del Vallès, was founded in 1986 by Rosenberg Ventilatoren with partners; Rosenberg took over the partners' shares completely in 1993. airtècnics specialises in the production of door air curtains. In Waldmünchen, production of belt-driven fans began in 1991 through the company BavAiria Ventilatoren GmbH & Co KG, founded in 1988. For the production of drum impellers, Rosenberg founded the company D.G.T. Rotor Srl in 1992 with partners, who today hold 27.5 percent, in San Vito al Tagliamento, Italy; the company now operates as Rosenberg Italia Srl. In 1994 Rosenberg acquired 82.41 percent of the French fan manufacturer Ecofit, founded in 1976 and based in Vendôme; Ecofit exports 70 percent of its production, 30 percent of that to non-EU countries, and produces fans on 7,000 m² with around 180 employees. In 2002 Ecofit took over its French competitor Etri, which had an American branch in Charlotte, Etri Inc.; that American branch was renamed Rosenberg USA as part of the acquisition. In 2006, the takeover of Rox Lufttechnik GmbH in Weitefeld expanded the air-conditioning business, accompanied by the founding of Rox Klimatechnik GmbH. Since 2005 the company has placed particular emphasis in development and production on energy-saving EC motors and fans. Motors with EC technology are designed to achieve efficiency levels above 90 percent and to save up to 50 percent energy compared with conventional DC motors. In 2023, to secure its future, the Rosenberg Group was transferred into the Karl Rosenberg Stiftung, which promotes the identity and culture of the group as a family business and supports charitable organisations, particularly in science, research, art, culture and social projects in the group's regional environment. Today the group operates production sites and sales offices in more than 45 countries, employs roughly 1,700 people worldwide and generates revenue of around 240 million euros.
