Overview
Rosbank Avto (Russian: Росбанк Авто) is the auto-lending division of Rosbank, a major Russian universal bank. Until January 2021, the entity operated as Rusfinance Bank (ООО «Русфинанс Банк»), a standalone consumer finance bank that focused on car loans, credit cards, and acquiring services. Rusfinance Bank was originally founded in 1992 as Promek-Bank (Промэк-Банк), backed by the Samara-based financial-industrial group SOK. In 2005, the French banking group Société Générale, through its subsidiary Rusfinance, acquired the bank; the name was changed to Rusfinance Bank in 2006. Under Société Générale, Rusfinance Bank became a leading player in the Russian auto-lending market, ranking first by volume of car loans issued through auto dealer networks in the first half of 2011, according to RBC. In January 2021, Rusfinance Bank was merged into Rosbank and reorganized as a branch named Rosbank Avto, concentrating exclusively on car lending. The branch was recognized by dealers as the best universal banking partner of the year at the FinAuto-2021 forum. Rosbank itself was part of Société Générale's international financial group until 2022, when the French group sold its Russian operations. Rosbank Avto continues to provide auto loans and related financial services in the Russian market.
History
The institution that became Rosbank Avto was founded in 1992 as Promek-Bank (Промэк-Банк), with a core focus on consumer lending, including auto loans and credit cards. It was owned by the Samara-based financial-industrial group SOK. In 2005, the French financial group Société Générale, through its subsidiary Rusfinance, acquired the bank. Following the completion of the deal in 2006, the bank was renamed Rusfinance Bank (Русфинанс Банк). Under Société Générale, Rusfinance Bank expanded its consumer finance operations, particularly auto lending, and also provided acquiring services and issued Visa and MasterCard cards. According to RBC, in the first half of 2011, Rusfinance Bank ranked first in the volume of auto loans issued through the auto dealer network. In January 2021, Rusfinance Bank was merged into Rosbank and reorganized as a branch named Rosbank Avto, specializing exclusively in auto lending. Later in 2021, at the FinAuto-2021 forum "Financial Instruments of the Auto Market," the Rosbank Avto branch was recognized by dealers as the best universal banking partner of the year. Rosbank, the parent, was part of Société Générale's international financial group until 2022, when the French group divested its Russian operations. Rosbank Avto continues to operate as the auto-lending arm of Rosbank in the Russian market.
