Overview

Rohé (A. Rohé Holding GmbH) was an Austrian corporate group headquartered in Vienna that specialised in services related to petrol stations. Its activities included the maintenance of petrol stations, the construction and installation of tank systems, calibration, maintenance of car wash systems and soil remediation. According to its own figures, the company generated around EUR 115 million in revenue (as of 2007) and employed over 1,100 people across Europe. It had its own subsidiaries in 19 countries. The company was founded in 1949 by Adam Rohé in Offenbach am Main as A. Rohé GmbH Deutschland, with a parallel Austrian company, A. Rohé GmbH Österreich, established in 1962 with its seat in Vienna. From 1970 the company developed electric fuel dispensers, and in 1983 it entered the full petrol station installation and maintenance market in Germany as Rohé Tankanlagentechnik GmbH. In 1988 it was integrated into Osorno Vermögensverwaltungsgesellschaft in Augsburg. During the 1990s numerous European subsidiaries were founded: 1991 in Hungary, 1992 in the Czech Republic, 1993 in Bulgaria and Slovakia, 1994 in Romania, 1995 in Poland, 1996 in Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania and Croatia, and 1997 in Yugoslavia and Belarus. Because of the large number of subsidiaries, a holding company was founded in 1997. In 2008 two further subsidiaries were added in Turkey and Ukraine. In 1994 the German Tankanlagentechnik GmbH and the Austrian A. Rohé GmbH merged. Rohé subsequently constructed turnkey petrol stations; the first such station was handed over to its owner a year later. On 11 March 2009 the Austrian branch filed for insolvency. On 16 March 2009 A. Rohé Holding GmbH filed an application for bankruptcy proceedings at the Commercial Court of Vienna and sought a compulsory settlement. The group is therefore considered defunct.
