History
Rodney Strong Vineyards traces its story to 1959, when Rodney Strong envisioned Sonoma County as a special place for producing wine; the winery was the 13th bonded in the newly discovered Sonoma County wine industry. Rodney D. Strong was born in 1927 in Camas, Washington, and was a dancer before pursuing winemaking. Since 1989 the winery has been led by the Klein family, 4th generation California farmers, and it farms 12 estate vineyards in Sonoma County. Winemaker Emeritus Rick Sayre had an almost four-decade career at Rodney Strong before passing the baton in 2018 to current Director of Winemaking Justin Seidenfeld. The winery's history also includes the 1904 planting of the River West Vineyard south of Healdsburg, where the winery is located today.
