Overview
Robin des Toits is a French association that campaigns against what it considers dangerous aspects of electromagnetic radiation and the installation of mobile phone relay antennas, particularly in the context of electromagnetic hypersensitivity. The organization presents itself as independent of any financial, political, philosophical or religious group and states that it receives no subsidies. Its website aims to inform citizens about technologies emitting artificial electromagnetic fields, including mobile telecommunications, and provides documentation on scientific work highlighting their impact on health and the planet, analyses of threats to democracy and fundamental rights, information on citizens' rights, and details of actions carried out by Robin des Toits and its partners. The association is active in France and has been involved in legal actions and public positions regarding exposure limits and smart meters.
History
Robin des Toits is a French association that intervenes in the fight against what it considers dangerous aspects of electromagnetic radiation and the installation of relay antennas, particularly in the context of electromagnetic hypersensitivity. In 2009, approximately 250 associations and collectives were members of Robin des Toits. In 2012, the association, which campaigns against the installation of new antennas and for a maximum exposure threshold of 0.6 V/m (for 2G) and a moratorium on UMTS (3G), referred the matter to the Conseil d'État to denounce the increasingly limited room for manoeuvre of mayors in mobile operator deployment plans. In 2013, the association, which had been able to encourage municipalities to conduct experiments at 0.6 V/m, such as Tourcoing or Montreuil-sous-Bois, ultimately abandoned its action in Paris. Following the report issued on 15 October 2013 by ANSES stating that scientific studies do not show a proven effect on health, Robin des Toits deplored that ANSES neglected studies on the impact of 4G technology and demanded the application of the precautionary principle. From the generalization of so-called smart meters such as Linky, it opposed them. In December 2017, the association decided not to respond to the hearing on Linky electric meters organized by the National Assembly, as the four minutes allotted seemed to it to be conceded only to avoid any serious questioning on the subject. In 2018, the association denounced the cost of installing the new meters, with Gazpar requiring an investment of one billion euros and Linky five billion.
