History

Robert Welch is a British brand founded in 1955 by Robert Welch, a pioneer in the use of stainless steel. Robert Radford Welch studied silversmithing at the Royal College of Art and, upon graduation in 1955, left London for the Gloucestershire countryside, renting a small room in a disused 18th-century Silk Mill in Chipping Campden. He started with just his drawing board, a sheet of paper and a pencil, and even slept on a camp bed in the same room as he worked. The company remains based in the same building and has grown to supply over 100 countries while retaining its Cotswold identity. Its designs can be found in homes, cathedrals, universities, embassies, hotels, restaurants, cruise liners, airlines and museums worldwide.
