History

Riviera Shopping Center is part of the Riviera de São Lourenço, a planned urban development on the coast of São Paulo state, Brazil. The Riviera de São Lourenço project began in 1979 when directors of the landowning companies Praias Paulistas S.A. and Cia Fazenda Acaraú, during a helicopter flight over São Lourenço beach, initiated talks with Sobloco Construtora S/A for the urbanization of a 9-million-square-meter area. The contract was signed in August 1979, and construction began that same year. The urban plan was designed by architects Oswaldo Correa Gonçalves and Benno Perelmutter, following guidelines from the Municipality of Santos. Sobloco established strict rules for land use and occupation, environmental protection, and infrastructure. Over the decades, the Riviera de São Lourenço grew to include approximately 12,000 housing units, a shopping center, a commercial and service center, a hypermarket, restaurants, schools, medical and dental services, flats and hotels, gas stations, an equestrian club, a tennis complex, and a golf club. The shopping center, known as Riviera Shopping, was developed to serve this growing community and the surrounding region. It is described as the largest and most charming shopping center on the entire coast, with 52 stores and 15 kiosks. The shopping center includes a food court, a Pão de Açúcar supermarket, and a 24-hour pharmacy. It operates with extended hours during the high season and is a key amenity for residents and visitors of the Riviera de São Lourenço.
