The name RivaReno is a tribute to Bologna, situated on the banks of the Reno river. The first RivaReno shop with its production laboratorio opened in 2005 in Milan on via Col di Lana. The brand emphasizes fresh daily gelato made with real fruit, with fruit content up to 65%, and offers franchising opportunities.

RivaReno was born from a passion when four friends—a manager, his life and business partner and BBC journalist, an established gelato maker from Bologna, and a lawyer—decided to work together to open the best Italian gelato laboratorio ever. The idea soon gained support from other entrepreneurs, and RivaReno was created as a symbol of good quality Italian gelato. The name RivaReno is a tribute to Bologna, situated on the banks of the Reno river, and its inhabitants. Since its birth in 2004, RivaReno has brought fresh daily gelato to the market. The first RivaReno shop, with its attached gelato production laboratorio, opened to the public in 2005 in Milan on via Col di Lana.
