Overview

Rifugio Angelo Alimonta (often simply Rifugio Alimonta, German: Alimontahütte) is a privately owned mountain hut (rifugio) in the Brenta Dolomites of Trentino, northern Italy. Situated at 2,580 metres above sea level on a small rocky plateau known as the Vedretta dei Sfùlmini or dei Armi, on the western side of the central Brenta group within the municipality of Tre Ville, it is the highest refuge in the Brenta range. The hut was built in 1968 by the mountain guides Ezio and Gilio Alimonta and has been run by the Alimonta family ever since. It is typically open from mid-June to mid-September and offers 93 beds plus a winter room with 6 beds. The refuge serves as a key base for climbers and hikers, located at the start and end of several famous via ferrata routes, including the Bocchette Alte and Bocchette Centrali. It is also used as a base camp for ascents such as the Campanile Basso and the Torre di Brenta. The hut was renovated in 2004. Today it is managed by Raffaele Alimonta, son of Ezio, together with his wife Annarita and their daughter Annamaria. Raffaele, born in 1974, is an architect and passionate cook who prepares the meals served at the hut, following in the footsteps of his mother Nini. Annarita, born in 1986, holds a degree in tourism management and business studies and handles guest reception and service. The family also maintains a bell in front of the refuge in memory of Nini. The hut is accessible from Vallesinella (1,513 m) via paths 317, 318 and 323 in about 4 hours, and connects to other refuges such as Rifugio Tuckett – Quintino Sella, Rifugio Tosa e 'T. Pedrotti', and Rifugio Alberto e Maria ai Brentei via various routes and via ferrata. As a commercial hospitality brand, Rifugio Angelo Alimonta represents a traditional, family-run alpine refuge offering accommodation, food and beverage services to mountaineers and outdoor enthusiasts in a high-alpine environment.

History

Rifugio Angelo Alimonta was built in 1968 by the mountain guides Ezio and Gilio Alimonta on a small rocky plateau known as the Vedretta dei Sfùlmini or dei Armi, on the western side of the central Brenta group in the municipality of Tre Ville, Trentino. At 2,580 metres above sea level, it is the highest refuge in the Brenta Dolomites. The hut was established as an essential base for alpinists exploring the Brenta group and as a guardian of the pristine high-alpine environment. Since its founding, it has been continuously operated by the Alimonta family. The hut was renovated in 2004, modernising its facilities while maintaining its traditional character. Over the decades, it has become a key stop on the Via delle Bocchette, a famous network of via ferrata routes, and a starting point for climbs of peaks such as the Campanile Basso and Torre di Brenta. The family tradition continues today: Raffaele Alimonta, son of Ezio, born in 1974, spent every summer of his life at the hut and now manages it with his wife Annarita (born 1986) and their daughter Annamaria (born 2016). Raffaele, an architect by profession, is also the hut's chef, preparing meals in the footsteps of his mother Nini. Annarita, who holds a degree in tourism management, oversees guest services. A bell in front of the refuge commemorates Nini. The hut typically opens from mid-June to mid-September and offers 93 beds plus a winter room with 6 beds. It remains a privately owned and operated commercial hospitality business, deeply rooted in the mountaineering culture of the Brenta Dolomites.
