Overview
Rifton is a company that designs adaptive durable medical equipment and mobility solutions, supporting therapists and caregivers and helping people with disabilities foster independence and mobility. Since 1977, Rifton has led the way in designing and manufacturing high-quality adaptive equipment for people with disabilities. All equipment is made in the USA at facilities in New York's Hudson Valley and southwestern Pennsylvania.
History
Rifton began in 1977 as an offshoot of Community Playthings, a leading manufacturer of furniture and equipment for early childhood settings. When designers visited a Connecticut home for children with disabilities, a therapist asked if they could custom-build a chair for one of the residents. Similar requests trickled in, and soon designers and workers at Community Playthings were dreaming about a new line of equipment, and so Rifton Equipment began.
