Overview

The Revista de Huesca was a Spanish cultural journal published in two volumes comprising seven issues between 1903 and 1905. It focused on the arts, sciences, history and literature of Huesca and its province. The journal was founded by Gabriel Llabrés y Quintana, who served as its director and editor, and who had previously undertaken similar publishing ventures in Mahón, Cáceres and Palma de Mallorca. The first volume carried the subtitle 'Colección de materiales para la Historia de Aragón' (Collection of materials for the History of Aragon). The journal struggled to attract subscribers, both among the professionals and scholars of Huesca and from the rest of Spain. The list of subscribers appears in Volume I, number 1, which also records the income from 78 subscriptions to the six issues of the first volume, amounting to 390 pesetas. The existence of another publication with similar content in the Aragonese region, the Revista de Aragón (1 January 1900 – 1 December 1905), was the cause of the lack of contributors, so that Llabrés himself signed most of the works. Other contributors included Pedro Aguado Bleye, Luis Buil Bayod, Gregorio García Ciprés, Mariano de Pano, and Mario de La Sala Valdés y García-Sala, among others. The journal was printed in Huesca (Imp. De Costanera) and Zaragoza (M. Escar, Tipógrafo). In 1994 the Instituto de Estudios Altoaragoneses produced a facsimile edition that also includes various indexes, among them an onomastic and a toponymic index. The publication is now defunct, but it remains a valuable source for the cultural and historical study of Huesca and Aragon in the early 20th century.
