Overview
The Revista Crítica de Derecho Inmobiliario (RCDI) is a Spanish legal journal founded in January 1925 by the jurist Jerónimo González together with a group of property registrars linked to the Dirección General de los Registros y del Notariado (the Directorate-General for Registries and Notaries) of Spain's Ministry of Justice. Initially established as a joint-stock company, the journal was later acquired by the Colegio de Registradores de la Propiedad y Mercantiles de España (the Spanish Association of Property and Mercantile Registrars), which has owned it since 1965 while preserving its functional autonomy. The journal's original scope was real estate and registry law, but it progressively expanded to cover the whole of private law — civil and commercial — as well as certain areas of public law connected to the registry world, such as urban planning law. Its regular contributors include law professors, lawyers, notaries, and property and mercantile registrars. The RCDI is published in Madrid and is available both in print and online. It follows open-access principles with a six-month embargo from the date of publication, and it uses the PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN) with LOCKSS technology to guarantee digital preservation and permanent access to its published content. The journal's ISSN is 0210-0444 and its e-ISSN is 2695-6314. It is governed by a Code of Good Practices inspired by the COPE guidelines. The RCDI has been presided over by distinguished jurists including Jerónimo González, Ramón María Roca-Sastre, Luis Díez-Picazo (1979–2016), Aurelio Menéndez Menéndez (2016–...), and Francisco Javier Gómez Gálligo (2018–present). Its Secretary-Counsellors have included Luis Díez-Picazo y Ponce de León, Francisco Sánchez de Frutos, Fernando Muñoz Cariñanos, Francisco Corral Dueñas, Francisco Javier Gómez Gálligo, and currently Basilio Aguirre Fernández. The journal also awards the Premio "Revista Crítica de Derecho Inmobiliario" and offers print-on-demand services. It is recognized as one of Spain's most prestigious and traditional legal publications, with significant influence on jurisdictional and administrative legal practice.
History
The Revista Crítica de Derecho Inmobiliario was founded in January 1925 as a personal project of the eminent jurist and mortgage law specialist Jerónimo González, together with other jurists, mainly registrars and officials of the Facultative Corps of the Dirección General de los Registros y del Notariado. Initially it adopted the legal form of a joint-stock company, constituted by Vicente Cantos Figuerola, then president of the Association of Registrars and Registrar of the Mediodía of Madrid, and by Jerónimo González. This legal form subsisted until the Colegio Nacional de Registradores de la Propiedad y Mercantiles de España directly assumed ownership of the journal by acquiring the shares of the company, as reported in the January–February 1965 issue. From this second, more collegiate era, it became customary for the Deans of the Colegio to become permanent members of the Editorial Board. This was the case with then Dean Pedro Cabello de la Sota and his successors Juan-José Benayas, José Poveda Murcia, Pío Cabanillas Gallas, Antonio de Leyva y Andía, Carlos Hernández Crespo, José Poveda Díaz, Antonio Pau Pedrón, Fernando Méndez González, Eugenio Rodríguez Cepeda, Alfonso Candau Pérez, Gonzalo Aguilera Anegón, and currently Mª Emilia Adán García. Distinguished jurists have presided over the Editorial Board of the Revista Crítica and held the position of Secretary-Counsellor. It suffices to note that the presidency has been held by Jerónimo González himself, Ramón María Roca Sastre, Luis Díez-Picazo y Ponce de León, Aurelio Menéndez Menéndez, and currently Francisco Javier Gómez Gálligo. Luis Díez-Picazo y Ponce de León also served as Secretary-Counsellor, later succeeded by Francisco Sánchez de Frutos, Fernando Muñoz Cariñanos, Francisco Corral Dueñas, Francisco Javier Gómez Gálligo, and currently Basilio Aguirre Fernández. The journal's scope initially focused on real estate and registry law but progressively expanded to cover all of private law, civil and commercial, as well as certain public law matters linked to the registry world, such as urban planning law. Its regular contributors include law professors, lawyers, notaries, and property and mercantile registrars. The RCDI is one of Spain's most prestigious and traditional legal publications, with great influence on jurisdictional and administrative legal practice. It has collaborated with leading legal figures such as Professor Díez-Picazo in civil law, Ángel Rojo and Juan Luis Iglesias in commercial law, and Laso Martínez in urban planning law, among others. The journal is currently published in Madrid and is available in print and online. It follows open-access principles with a six-month embargo and uses the PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN) with LOCKSS technology for digital preservation. It also awards the Premio "Revista Crítica de Derecho Inmobiliario" and offers print-on-demand services.
