Overview

The Reverend Mr. Ichitarou Tomato Memorial Hall (一太郎翁とまと記念館, Ichitarou-ou Tomato Kinenkan) is a museum and restaurant facility located in Arao-cho, Tokai City, Aichi Prefecture, Japan. It was established in 2009 by Kanie Yoshinobu, a former president of Kagome Co., Ltd. and grandson of Kagome's founder, Kanie Ichitarou. Kanie Yoshinobu used his personal funds to build the private museum on the site where Kagome was founded. The second floor houses a memorial exhibition dedicated to Kanie Ichitarou, while the first floor operates a restaurant specializing in tomato dishes. After Kanie Yoshinobu passed away in January 2012, his eldest daughter, Takeuchi Masumi, served as director. In April 2014, Tokai City leased the land and building from Kanie Yoshinobu's heirs and began using the facility for health promotion. In November of the same year, the name was changed to "Tomato Memorial Hall" (とまと記念館), and it became a base for food-related activities under the "Tomato de Health Project" promoting citizens' health. The facility was managed and operated by Obriage Co., Ltd., but is currently operated by Tokai City's dietary improvement promoters and registered dietitians under contract from Tokai City. The museum opened on March 29, 2009, and began general operations on April 12, 2009. It reopened as Tomato Memorial Hall on November 28, 2014. The facility includes the Ichitarou Memorial Exhibition and a restaurant. Opening hours are from 11:00 to 14:00, and it is closed on Sundays through Wednesdays. Access is about 5 minutes from Tokai IC on the Isewangan Expressway, or about 8 minutes on foot from Jurakuen Station on the Meitetsu Tokoname Line.
