Overview

Revanche Tactical Group is a Ukrainian military formation connected with the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine, commonly abbreviated as HUR MOU. It emerged from a patriotic volunteer community formed in 2014 amid the political crisis, separatist unrest and Russian intervention in eastern Ukraine. The group opposed pro-Russian separatist activity and participated in operations in the Anti-Terrorist Operation and Joint Forces Operation zones around Mariupol, Donetsk and Luhansk before Russia’s full-scale invasion. On 28 February 2022, the Revanche battalion was organized from volunteers and entered the defence of Kyiv from the opening days of the full-scale war. Its fighters operated around Hostomel, Irpin, Bucha, Moshchun and the Brovary axis, and were involved in the liberation of Lukianivka and Rudnytske. The unit’s personnel included Ukrainian singer Oleh Mykhailiuta, known by the stage name Fagot and recognized as a vocalist of the band TNMK. After the Kyiv campaign, Revanche operated in southern Ukraine, including Kherson and Mykolaiv oblasts, and later fought in the defence of Sievierodonetsk in June 2022. The unit remained active across several major fronts in 2023 and 2024. It fought in Bakhmut and took part in a Ukrainian river-crossing and bridgehead operation on the Russian-held left bank of the Dnieper near Pidstepne and Kozachi Laheri. In 2024, Revanche participated in the defence of Chasiv Yar, where it engaged Russian infantry and vehicles amid heavy artillery, air strikes, thermobaric-rocket fire and extensive drone use. It also conducted offensive operations near Lyptsi in Kharkiv Oblast and later moved to the Zaporizhzhia axis, including fighting around Kamianske and support operations near Rivnopil. During 2025, the group conducted combat and stabilization missions near Mali Shcherbaky, Zelene Pole and Stepnohirsk. Its responsibilities included assault operations, reconnaissance, fire support, countering mechanized attacks and the use of strike drones against Russian logistics and armored vehicles. From July 2025, it was involved in the defence of Stepnohirsk and the area known as the Romb district, including raids and extended operations behind Russian lines. In August 2025, Revanche was incorporated into the International Legion of the Main Directorate of Intelligence, a formation that includes Ukrainian and foreign volunteers. The unit continued operations on the Zaporizhzhia axis into early 2026. Revanche is not a conventional commercial consumer brand. Its identity is expressed through military service, volunteer recruitment, battlefield reporting, unit insignia and public communications. The emblem is described as a white skull pierced by a dagger on a black shield. The group recruits and trains volunteers, including foreign nationals, and its public profile is closely tied to Ukraine’s wartime defence rather than to commercial products or services.

History

Revanche originated in 2014, when a group of Ukrainian patriots formed a militant community in response to separatist unrest and Russian-backed destabilization in eastern Ukraine. The organization supported Ukraine’s territorial integrity, opposed anti-Ukrainian activity and sent members to fight in the Anti-Terrorist Operation and later Joint Forces Operation zones. Its personnel served on the Mariupol, Donetsk and Luhansk axes through the period preceding the full-scale invasion. On 28 February 2022, the Revanche battalion was formally assembled from motivated volunteers. It joined the defence of Kyiv during the first hours of Russia’s full-scale attack. The unit operated in and around Hostomel, Irpin, Bucha and Moshchun, as well as on the Brovary axis. Together with neighboring Ukrainian and partisan formations, it helped liberate Lukianivka and Rudnytske. The defence of the capital enabled Ukrainian forces to shorten the front and redeploy formations to other sectors. Musician Oleh Mykhailiuta, known as Fagot and associated with TNMK, was among the personnel serving on the Kyiv axis. Following the liberation of Kyiv Oblast, Revanche moved south in April 2022 and operated in Kherson and Mykolaiv oblasts, including around Nova Zoria and Tavriiske. In June, the unit participated in the defence of Sievierodonetsk, an industrial city targeted by Russian forces. Its positions were subsequently transferred to neighboring formations. In spring 2023, Revanche fought in Bakhmut. Its reported missions included holding assigned defensive lines, preventing Russian forces from advancing and counter-attacking positions captured from adjacent Ukrainian units. During summer 2023, the unit also took part in a Ukrainian operation across the Dnieper in Kherson Oblast. Fighters crossed the river by boat and helped establish a bridgehead near Pidstepne and Kozachi Laheri on the left bank. The unit’s 2024 operations included the defence of Chasiv Yar, where Russian forces used infantry attacks, armor, artillery, air strikes, FPV drones and TOS-1 thermobaric rocket systems. In July, commander Bohdan Khodakovskyi stated that Russian troops had entered the Kanal district but had not crossed the Siverskyi Donets–Donbas Canal. From summer 2024, Revanche also operated in woodland near Lyptsi in Kharkiv Oblast. Assault groups advanced under fire support, cleared forest positions and consolidated new Ukrainian lines. In November, the group moved to the Zaporizhzhia axis and operated around Kamianske as Russian forces prepared a large assault. It also provided fire cover for neighboring infantry formations near Rivnopil in Donetsk Oblast. In 2025, Revanche conducted operations near Mali Shcherbaky, Zelene Pole and Stepnohirsk. Around Mali Shcherbaky, its drone operators helped repel a mechanized assault and targeted armored vehicles, tanks and light vehicles. Near Zelene Pole, the unit carried out stabilization operations and helped restore Ukrainian positions. From July, it defended Stepnohirsk and the Romb district, conducting raids, reconnaissance and operations behind Russian lines. In August 2025, it was incorporated into the International Legion of the Main Directorate of Intelligence. Combat activity around Stepnohirsk continued into early 2026, including the use of FPV drones against Russian logistics at considerable depth behind the front. The unit’s insignia is described as a white skull pierced by a dagger on a black shield. Revanche also maintains a recruitment and training role, including for foreign volunteers. Publicly available material emphasizes combat operations and military identity rather than commercial activity.
