Overview

Reuniwatt is a French company founded in 2009 in La Réunion by Nicolas Schmutz, an energy engineer who had participated in the development of several photovoltaic plants on the island. The company develops sky observation tools, satellite data analysis methods, and weather forecasting models designed to anticipate sunshine and the production of solar power plants. It is headquartered in La Réunion and also has offices in Toulouse and Paris. Reuniwatt offers cutting-edge solutions for high-resolution observation of cloud cover and solar irradiation, as well as wind and solar power forecasting services. Its solutions have been deployed across all continents and are acknowledged by industrials and researchers. The company's core technologies include SunSat™, a proprietary method that processes geostationary satellite images to retrieve cloud cover and solar irradiance at ground level at kilometric resolution; Sky InSight™, a thermal infrared imager for 24/7 all-sky observation; Sky Cam Vision™, a whole-sky visible-range camera; and forecasting products such as DayCast™ for day-ahead solar and wind forecasts and InstaCast™ for very short-term solar production forecasting. Reuniwatt serves operators of renewable energy installations and electricity grid managers, providing forecasts based on satellite data, weather models, ground measurements, and sky images. The company also operates in the space sector, where its solutions are used to anticipate cloud cover conditions that could affect optical communications between satellites and ground stations. In this context, it developed Sky InSight, an infrared sky imager, and SunSat, a satellite image analysis method for producing high-resolution data on sunshine and clouds. Since its founding, Reuniwatt has expanded internationally, notably in Africa and the Middle East. In 2017, the Mauritian group ENL became a minority shareholder. In 2019, its services were used in Morocco for several plants operated by the Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy, and in 2021 by the National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water to forecast wind production. Selected for the French Tech 120 program in 2021, Reuniwatt exceeded one million euros in revenue. In 2024 and 2025, supported by TotalEnergies, it placed an international corporate volunteer in Melbourne to support its development in Australia.

History

Reuniwatt was founded in 2009 in La Réunion by Nicolas Schmutz, an energy engineer who had participated in the development of several photovoltaic plants on the island. The company initially developed sky observation tools, satellite data analysis methods, and weather forecasting models intended to anticipate sunshine and the production of solar power plants. In 2012, it participated in the NETVA program with the aim of developing in the American market. From 2013, it took part in research projects on space optical communications within the Saint-Exupéry Institute of Technology Research in Toulouse, in partnership with Airbus Defence and Space and then Thales Alenia Space. Its solutions were deployed from 2014 on photovoltaic installations, among others for Albioma in La Réunion. The company subsequently opened an office in Paris and progressively extended its activities internationally, notably in Africa and the Middle East. In 2017, the Mauritian group ENL entered the company's capital as a minority shareholder. In 2021, it was also selected by the National Institute of Geographic and Forestry Information (IGN) to produce a mapping of photovoltaic installations in a territory in the Île-de-France region. In 2024 and 2025, supported by TotalEnergies, it placed an international corporate volunteer in Melbourne to support its development in Australia. Reuniwatt develops technologies for forecasting sunshine, solar production, and wind resources for operators of renewable installations and electricity grid managers. Its services provide forecasts based on satellite data, weather models, ground measurements, and sky images. The company also operates in the space sector. Its solutions are used to anticipate cloud cover conditions likely to affect optical communications between satellites and ground stations. In this context, it developed Sky InSight, an infrared sky imager, and SunSat, a satellite image analysis method intended to produce high-resolution data on sunshine and clouds.
