Overview

Rete Veneta is a local Italian television broadcaster serving the Veneto and Friuli Venezia Giulia regions, with its main studios and newsroom in Bassano del Grappa (Vicenza). It traces its origins to 1977, when it launched as TeleRadioVeneto, and over the following decades it changed names and ownership several times — becoming TeleRadio Diffusione Bassano in the 1980s, Bassano Tv in 1997, and finally adopting the Rete Veneta name in 2006. The channel is carried on channel 14 of the digital terrestrial platform in Veneto and is directed by Luigi Bacialli, with Ferdinando Avarino as deputy director. Rete Veneta positions itself as a generalist channel with a strong emphasis on news and coverage of local affairs. From 2006 it initially focused on the Bassano area and the province of Treviso, operating two newsrooms and two dedicated news bulletins. It subsequently expanded its reach to Venice (2008) and Padua (2009), opening additional newsrooms and launching province-specific daily newscasts. By 2009 the broadcaster operated four offices and four newsrooms, each producing two daily editions of its local TG (TG Bassano, TG Treviso, TG Venezia, TG Padova). A Vicenza newsroom was later added, giving the channel a five-newsroom structure. Its programming is built around local newscasts and the evening talk show Focus, hosted by director Luigi Bacialli, which discusses current affairs and political topics from a Veneto perspective. The channel has also produced live special coverage of major regional events, including the 2007 fire that destroyed the De'Longhi plant in Treviso and the November 2010 floods that hit various parts of Veneto. Viewer participation is encouraged through segments such as "...e io chiamo Rete Veneta" and "Linea diretta." In December 2016 the publishing company Teleradio Diffusione Bassano S.r.l. won the judicial auction of the historic Treviso broadcaster Antenna Tre Veneto, which had entered bankruptcy proceedings. In 2017 the Medianordest television group was formed, bringing together Antenna Tre Veneto, Rete Veneta, TNE Telenordest and Telequattro. Rete Veneta also made a brief cameo appearance in the 2019 film Spider-Man: Far From Home, in which a fictional news segment conducted by journalist Tatiana Lunardon is shown.

History

Rete Veneta's history begins in 1977, when the station was founded under the name TeleRadioVeneto. During the 1980s it adopted the name TeleRadio Diffusione Bassano. In the early 1990s it acquired the frequency of the Padua-based television channel Canale 30, which was linked to the Telepadova group. In 1997 the station took the name Bassano Tv. In 2004 it merged with the Lombard broadcaster TvSet, which had been taken over by the Milan-based company Telenord. The Bassano-based station's coverage extended across all of Veneto and Friuli Venezia Giulia. In 2006 it became Rete Veneta. Rete Veneta is a generalist television channel with a strong focus on news and telling the stories of its territory. Initially, from 2006, it concentrated on the Bassano area and the province of Treviso, with two newsrooms and two dedicated newscasts. It gradually expanded its reach to Venice (2008) and Padua (2009), opening two new newsrooms and launching specific provincial newscasts with daily editions. By 2009 the station had four offices and four newsrooms, with four newscasts (TG Bassano, TG Treviso, TG Venezia, TG Padova), each with two daily editions. A Vicenza newsroom was later added, giving the channel five newsrooms and five local TG programs. The channel has covered major news events with live broadcasts and specials, such as the 2007 non-stop coverage of the fire that destroyed the De'Longhi plant in Treviso and the November 2010 floods that struck various areas of Veneto. Rete Veneta's in-depth analysis is entrusted to the program Focus, an evening talk show with studio guests hosted by director Luigi Bacialli. News events and major political topics are at the center of the debate, from Tuesday to Friday evenings, read and discussed from the perspective of Veneto. The channel's newscasts encourage viewer participation, with segments such as "...e io chiamo Rete Veneta," for reporting a problem and trying to solve it, or by publishing comments sent to the newsroom on specific topics as in Linea diretta. Politics is also covered extensively, with attention to both regional and municipal dynamics, ensuring coverage of various electoral appointments with election specials, results and live links. In December 2016 the publishing company of Rete Veneta, Teleradio Diffusione Bassano S.r.l., won the judicial auction of the historic Treviso broadcaster Antenna Tre Veneto, which had ended up in bankruptcy proceedings. In 2017 the Medianordest television group was born, comprising Antenna Tre Veneto, Rete Veneta, TNE Telenordest and Telequattro. An easter egg of Rete Veneta appeared in the 2019 film Spider-Man: Far From Home: in it, a brief fictional segment conducted by journalist Tatiana Lunardon is shown regarding the attack of a sea creature that emerged from the Grand Canal.
