Overview

Rete 7 is an Italian local television broadcaster headquartered in Turin, serving the Piedmont and Aosta Valley regions. It was founded in 1977 in Cuorgnè under the name Tele 2 Rotonde and went through several name changes — Tele Malta 80 (1982–1984), Rete Piemonte (1984–1986) and Nuova Rete Piemonte (1986–1988) — before adopting the current name Rete 7 in 1988. In 1994 it obtained a commercial broadcasting concession from the Ministry of Telecommunications. In the following decade the publisher took over Rete TV Videonord (formerly VideoVercelli) from the Quarta group. Rete 7 focuses primarily on news and social communication. It broadcasts InformaSETTE, its daily 7 p.m. newscast, and at night airs newscasts from various Italian regional broadcasters in the Regioni All News cycle. Its schedule also includes entertainment, sports, medicine, culture and classic films. In addition to covering news and realities of Piedmont, it gives prominence to the cultures and traditions of the Aosta Valley with a dedicated daily segment, and to current affairs from neighbouring regions (Lombardy and Liguria) in the programme NordOvest.tv. Until 2016 it carried Odeon TV programmes, and from 2013 to 2018 it rebroadcast part of Frisbee's schedule for some hours of the day. With the transition from analogue to digital terrestrial television, Rete 7 became the holder of two multiplexes, one in Piedmont and one in the Aosta Valley, broadcasting alongside its flagship channel the channels Videonord, NORDOVEST 7 VDA and PEOPLE TV. PEOPLE TV is also available free via satellite on Sky Italia (channel 825) and Tivùsat (channel 420). Since 2018 People TV has rebroadcast Rete 7 24 hours a day on both terrestrial and satellite. Rete 7 also collaborates with the broadcaster TV Vallee to produce the programme Valle d'Aosta in Tv. Since 2016 the channel has broadcast in 16:9 format, and since 8 March 2022 it has also broadcast in high definition.
