Overview

Restart Global (Hebrew: ריסטארט) is an Israeli nonprofit association (amuta) founded in 2014 that assists wounded Israel Defense Forces (IDF) soldiers and their families in returning to a full life after injury and rehabilitation. The organization was established and is run by wounded soldiers who have themselves gone through the rehabilitation journey and recognized the need for support at the critical point between finishing hospital treatment and returning to a real routine and a complete life. Since its founding, Restart has helped hundreds of wounded soldiers and their families get their lives back on track. Restart operates a range of programs that require active participation from the wounded soldiers and involve volunteers from the business and technology communities. These include a TED-style public speaking and personal storytelling program, a one-on-one mentoring program pairing participants with industry mentors, and a six-month technology initiative culminating in a three-day event where makers—engineers, programmers, designers, doctors, physiotherapists, and others—develop technological solutions for the daily challenges of wounded soldiers. The organization also maintains an alumni community that provides networking, courses, practical content, business opportunities, and a forum for human resources managers aimed at directly finding employment for wounded soldiers. Following the October 7, 2023 attacks, Restart has faced an enormous scale of need, with over 20,000 wounded individuals. In response, beyond its regular programs, the organization has deployed teams in the field, in hospitals, and for family visits, and has been creating tailored technological solutions for wounded soldiers in six hospitals. Restart continues to operate its ongoing programs while expanding its emergency response to meet the unprecedented demand.

History

Restart Global was founded in 2014 as an Israeli nonprofit association (amuta) dedicated to helping wounded IDF soldiers and their families return to a full life after injury and rehabilitation. It was established and is managed by wounded soldiers who had personally undergone the rehabilitation journey and understood the need for accompaniment at the point between the end of hospital treatment and the return to a real routine and a complete life. Since its founding, the organization has assisted hundreds of wounded soldiers and their families in getting their lives back on track. Over the years, Restart developed a set of core programs that require active participation from the wounded soldiers and involve volunteers from the business and technology communities. These include a challenging accompaniment program for breaking boundaries and leaving one's comfort zone, featuring ten powerful sessions where top lecturers provide participants with practical tools for writing a TED-style talk based on their personal story and delivering it compellingly at an unforgettable closing event. Another program pairs each participant with a mentor from the industry, working one-on-one on personal goals, an action plan, and achieving them, accompanied by ten content sessions on practical everyday tools such as conveying messages, reading body language, and networking. A third flagship initiative is a six-month activity culminating in a three-day peak event where the community and top minds from the technology world join forces. Maker teams—engineers, programmers, designers, doctors, physiotherapists, and others—convene to build technological solutions that do not exist on the market for the daily challenges of wounded IDF soldiers. The organization also maintains an alumni community that serves as a network for career advancement, business opportunities, support, and knowledge sharing, including networking, courses, practical content, business opportunities, and a forum of human resources managers aimed at directly finding employment for wounded soldiers. Following the October 7, 2023 attacks, Restart has confronted an enormous scale of need, with over 20,000 wounded individuals. Beyond its regular programs, which continue to operate, the organization has deployed teams in the field, in hospitals, and for family visits, and has been creating technological solutions tailored to wounded soldiers in six hospitals. Restart continues to do everything it can to be there for the wounded and their families during this unprecedented period.
