Overview

ReSiTec AS is a Norwegian materials technology company headquartered in Kristiansand, with a large processing plant located about 20 km outside the city centre. Founded in 2012, the company is owned by Å Energi Invest, previously known as Agder Energi Venture. ReSiTec combines process engineering expertise with an advanced pilot plant and industrial-scale production facilities to develop and supply advanced metal and mineral powders. The company operates across two connected areas: technology development services and powder products. On the development side, ReSiTec supports customers in creating new products and processes within powder technology and mineral processing, drawing on in-house expertise and pilot-scale equipment. On the production side, it manufactures micronized and sub-micron silicon powders, silicon carbide powders, agglomerated powders and quartz powders, often using recycled raw materials and Norwegian hydropower to achieve an exceptionally low carbon footprint. ReSiTec's product portfolio includes grades such as RST-Si-97,5, RST-Si-99, RST-Si-99,9, RST-Si-1M and RST-SiC-98. These materials serve application areas including the refractory industry, lithium-ion anode materials, ceramics, surface coating, hydrogen production, SiOx production, thermoelectrics and particle filters. The company also offers toll production and a wide range of processing opportunities. ReSiTec participates in European research and innovation projects. It is a work package leader in the ICARUS project (2021–2025), funded by Horizon 2020, which focuses on eco-efficient processing and refining routes for secondary raw materials from silicon ingot and wafer manufacturing. It is also involved in COBRA (2020–2024), a Horizon 2020 project developing cobalt-free lithium-ion battery technology for electric vehicles. More recently, ReSiTec has been associated with critical minerals and rare earths initiatives, including the REEUNiTe project and the EMINENT project on seabed sulfides. The company is part of the EYDE Cluster, the Norwegian Centre of Expertise for Sustainable Process Industry, reflecting its position in a region with a strong tradition of producing tailor-made materials from renewable energy. ReSiTec's team has broad industrial experience, including responsibility for the industrialization of Metallkraft across process and equipment development, up-scaling and construction of large process plants in China and Singapore.

History

ReSiTec AS was founded in 2012 and is headquartered in Kristiansand, Norway, where it also operates its R&D centre. The company is owned by Å Energi Invest, previously known as Agder Energi Venture. In addition to its Kristiansand headquarters, ReSiTec operates a large processing plant approximately 20 km outside the city centre, where it produces valuable metal and mineral powders for industrial purposes. The founding team brought significant industrial experience to the company. According to ReSiTec, its group of experienced engineers has a broad development and industrial background, and the team was responsible for the industrialization of Metallkraft, covering all disciplines from process and equipment development to up-scaling and construction of two large process plants in China and Singapore. This background in process engineering and the handling of powder and liquid solutions formed the basis for ReSiTec's service offering. ReSiTec developed two main business areas. The first is technology development services, in which the company supports customers in developing new products and processes using in-house expertise and an advanced pilot plant. The second is powder products, in which ReSiTec produces advanced silicon, silicon carbide and mineral powders, offering tailor-made materials according to customer needs and specifications. The company specializes in the production and refining of metals and minerals and offers a wide range of processing opportunities and toll production. ReSiTec's powder production uses inert atmosphere jet-milling technology to produce customized particle size distributions essentially free of added impurities. By using recycled raw materials and Norwegian hydropower, the company achieves products with an exceptionally low carbon footprint. Its product range includes micronized silicon grades RST-Si-97,5, RST-Si-99 and RST-Si-99,9, sub-micron silicon RST-Si-1M, micronized silicon carbide RST-SiC-98, as well as agglomerated powders and quartz powders. These materials are used in the refractory industry, lithium-ion anode materials, ceramics, surface coating, hydrogen production, SiOx production, thermoelectrics, particle filters and other applications. ReSiTec has participated in European collaborative research and innovation projects. In the ICARUS project (2021–2025), co-funded by the European Commission's Horizon 2020 programme, ReSiTec is work package 2 leader. The project focuses on innovative eco-efficient processing and refining routes for secondary raw materials from silicon ingot and wafer manufacturing, for accelerated utilisation in high-end markets. ReSiTec is responsible for pilot A, which collects, pretreats and processes side streams from ingot and wafer manufacturing: silicon kerf, graphite waste materials and silica crucible waste. The processed materials are tested in applications including anode material for lithium-ion batteries, thermoelectric modules, silicon carbide production, fine grain graphite and other pilots. The consortium comprises 17 partners including SINTEF, SGL Carbon, CIDETEC, Granges, FIVEN, ROSI, NOSI, UCY, MMEX, CEA, Lux Chemtech, BIFA, IPG, Benkei, Norsun and Chemcon, with a total project budget of 22 million euros. ReSiTec is also involved in COBRA (2020–2024), a collaborative research and innovation project on next-generation batteries co-funded by Horizon 2020. COBRA aims to develop a novel cobalt-free lithium-ion battery technology for electric vehicle applications by enhancing each component of the battery system holistically, using an LNMO-based battery chemistry. More recently, ReSiTec has been associated with critical minerals and rare earths initiatives. The REEUNiTe project (Rare Earths Elements – UNlocking the green Transition), led by SAGA Rare Earths AS with partners, was granted NOK 79 million from Green Platform to realize Europe's first sustainable rare earths initiative. ReSiTec is also connected to the EMINENT project, which has proven that high-grade copper metal can be extracted from the Norwegian seabed, with ReSiTec researchers showcasing sulfide material recovered from depths of 1,000 metres. ReSiTec is a member of the EYDE Cluster, the Norwegian Centre of Expertise (NCE) for Sustainable Process Industry, which works for the transition towards a sustainable future. The cluster's members range from multinational companies delivering high-quality materials to global markets, to regional suppliers, research organizations and education institutes, mainly located in the south of Norway — a region with a strong tradition of producing tailor-made materials from renewable energy with a low environmental footprint. The EYDE Innovation Centre (EIC) is the research and project hub of the cluster.
