Overview
Reporters d'Espoirs is a French NGO that trains journalists and media actors in the practice of information that inspires and encourages action. It describes three flagship actions: solution journalism, which it launched at its creation in 2004 and which consists of covering economic, social and ecological problems as well as the concrete responses implemented on the ground; biodiversity, an area in which it has raised journalists' awareness of climate since COP21 and in 2025 is developing a major programme on biodiversity; and youth, whom it trains and encourages in the practice of journalistic writing. Its offerings include a prize for journalists and media innovators, Le Lab (studies and training), LePlus (a base of 10,000 initiatives and reports), Le Lab Biodiversité, La Revue, media education at school, and the European Young Reporters d'Espoirs Prize.
History
Reporters d'Espoirs launched solution journalism at its creation in 2004; this approach consists of covering economic, social and ecological problems as well as the concrete responses implemented on the ground, so as not to remain with observations of powerlessness but instead to encourage taking initiative. Since COP21, Reporters d'Espoirs has raised journalists' awareness of climate, and in 2025 it is developing a major programme on biodiversity. It also trains and encourages young people in the practice of journalistic writing.
