Remírez de Ganuza

Remírez de Ganuza is a winery founded in 1989 and located in the centre of Samaniego, Álava, in Rioja Alavesa, where it makes contemporary Rioja wines. The bodega works 80 hectares of estate vineyard across more than 200 parcels in 9 municipalities on the foothills of the Sierra Cantabria. Since its beginnings it has sought to revolutionise some traditional methods in the area, introducing improvements in both vineyard and vinification; one notable system separates tempranillo clusters into two parts, with the shoulders used for wines with more ageing and ageing potential, the Remírez de Ganuza Reserva and Gran Reserva, and the tips destined for the young carbonic-maceration wine, Erre Punto.

Remírez de Ganuza was founded in 1989 and is located in the centre of Samaniego, Álava, in Rioja Alavesa, where it elaborates contemporary Rioja wines. The bodega has 80 hectares of estate vineyard formed by more than 200 parcels in 9 municipalities on the foothills of the Sierra Cantabria: Labastida, San Vicente de la Sonsierra, Ábalos, Samaniego, Leza, Elciego, Navaridas, Laguardia and Elvillar. From its beginnings it has been characterised by revolutionising some of the traditional methods in the zone, introducing improvements in both vineyard and vinification. One of the most notable systems is separating tempranillo clusters into two parts: the shoulders, with perfect phenolic maturation, are used for the wines with more ageing and ageing potential, the Remírez de Ganuza Reserva and Gran Reserva, while the tips are destined for the young carbonic-maceration wine, Erre Punto. The history of UV begins at La Rad, a site in San Vicente de la Sonsierra where Fernando acquired his first vines in 2007; in 2017 the decision was taken to bottle some units of La Rad for the first time. The winery is situated in the historic centre of Samaniego, a small village of 300 inhabitants in Rioja Alavesa.
