REMA TIP TOP traces its history to 1923, when brothers Otto and Willy Gruber founded a joint firm for trading screws and small metal parts, which developed into the specialist wholesaler Stahlgruber. Founded as part of the Stahlgruber Group, REMA TIP TOP focused in the 1920s mainly on supplying basic materials and tools for industry and skilled trades. In the 1930s the company recognised an opportunity in the growing automotive industry and began specialising in tyre repair, developing tyre repair kits. After the Second World War, as the German economy began to grow, REMA TIP TOP expanded nationally and internationally. Over a period of 100 years, the company states it developed from a dealer in steel and tools into a pioneer of predictive maintenance technologies.
