Overview
Reifenwerk Heidenau is a German tyre manufacturer based near Dresden that has produced tyres for more than 75 years. Its core competence is the manufacture of diagonal (bias) tyres for motorcycles, scooters, mopeds, classic and youngtimer vehicles, and industrial applications. Originally founded in 1946 as VEB Heidenauer Gummiwerke, the company was merged into the Pneumant tyre combine in 1969 and, after the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, was taken over by Gummi-Hansen in 1994, after which it rebuilt and grew under the HEIDENAU brand. More than 550 of its articles are developed, produced and tested in Germany by almost 200 employees.
History
Reifenwerk Heidenau was originally founded in 1946 as VEB Heidenauer Gummiwerke, producing rubber moulded articles and rubber roller coverings on its current site with a mandate to promote mobility. The first passenger car tyres followed in 1948, and the factory grounds were established in 1957. In 1969 the tyre plant was merged with other operations to form the Pneumant tyre combine. The fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 brought difficult times, but 1994 marked a decisive new start after the takeover by Gummi-Hansen. Under the well-known HEIDENAU brand, a phase of rebuilding and growth began, accompanied by expansion of the product portfolio and modernisation of facilities. Production modernisation is dated to 1993. The company states it has produced high-quality products in its plant for more than 75 years.
