Overview

RegionalPlus Wings Corp. is a Japanese joint holding company established on October 3, 2022, through the management integration of AIRDO ("Wings of Hokkaido") and Solaseed Air ("Wings of Kyushu and Okinawa"). Headquartered in the Haneda Airport Passenger Terminal 1 building in Ota-ku, Tokyo, the company oversees the management of both airlines and manages their aircraft maintenance. The group's mission is to contribute to regional development by connecting regions through safe travel and new value, while maintaining the independent brands and route networks of its two operating airlines. The company was formed against the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic, which severely reduced passenger demand for both airlines. The integration aimed to achieve cost savings of approximately 4.5 billion yen by fiscal 2026 through joint procurement of aircraft parts and fuel, shared office and counter operations at Haneda Airport, and common human resources and general affairs functions. Since the two airlines had no overlapping routes, they continue to operate under their own brands. RegionalPlus Wings is a public but unlisted company with capital of 100 million yen. Its major shareholders include the Development Bank of Japan, ANA Holdings, Sojitz, Miyazaki Kotsu, and various businesses in the Hokkaido and Miyazaki regions. The group is led by Chairman Takahiro Suzuki and President Shinsaku Yamaki (as of June 2025). The company's fiscal year runs from April 1 to March 31. As a holding company, RegionalPlus Wings does not operate flights itself. Its subsidiaries, AIRDO and Solaseed Air, continue to provide air services: AIRDO operates 11 routes connecting Hokkaido with Honshu and Fukuoka, while Solaseed Air operates 14 routes linking Tokyo and Okinawa with Kyushu. The group emphasizes safety, customer convenience, and community engagement, aiming to grow as an airline group trusted by customers and needed by regional communities.

History

RegionalPlus Wings Corp. was established on October 3, 2022, as a joint holding company integrating the management of AIRDO and Solaseed Air. The two airlines had both faced severe business conditions, particularly due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which caused a sharp decline in passenger numbers. Prior to the integration, both airlines had received capital investment from ANA (All Nippon Airways) and had existing business partnerships with it. AIRDO, based in Sapporo, Hokkaido, had undergone civil rehabilitation proceedings in 2002 and subsequently formed a comprehensive business alliance with ANA. Solaseed Air, based in Miyazaki, had received support from the Industrial Revitalization Corporation of Japan from 2004 and also had a business partnership with ANA. On May 31, 2021, AIRDO and Solaseed Air announced a basic agreement to establish a joint holding company by October 2022 and integrate their management. This was the first restructuring in the Japanese aviation industry since the start of the pandemic. The integration aimed to achieve cost reductions of approximately 4.5 billion yen by the end of fiscal 2026 through joint procurement of aircraft parts and fuel, shared office and counter operations at Haneda Airport, and common human resources and general affairs functions. Since the two airlines had no overlapping routes, they maintained their independent brands and route networks and continued operations as before. On May 30, 2022, the name of the joint holding company was announced as "RegionalPlus Wings." The name reflects the aspiration to stay close to regions ("regional"), create new demand and value ("plus") with the two wings ("wings") of AIRDO ("Wings of Hokkaido") and Solaseed Air ("Wings of Kyushu and Okinawa"). The company was officially launched on October 3, 2022, with its headquarters in the Haneda Airport Passenger Terminal 1 building. The first chairman was Susumu Kusano, then-president of AIRDO, and the first president was Kosuke Takahashi, then-president of Solaseed Air. On June 27, 2023, AIRDO President Susumu Kusano retired, and Takahiro Suzuki, from the Development Bank of Japan (the largest shareholder), succeeded him as chairman of the holding company while also serving as president of AIRDO. As of June 2025, the chairman is Takahiro Suzuki and the president is Shinsaku Yamaki. The company continues to promote collaboration between the two airlines to strengthen and improve its management base, aiming to grow as an airline group that is continuously chosen by customers and needed by regional communities.
