Overview
Regionale Verkehrsgesellschaft Dahme-Spreewald mbH (RVS) is a German regional bus company and the largest bus operator in the Dahme-Spreewald district (Landkreis Dahme-Spreewald) in the state of Brandenburg. It was founded on 1 July 1991 as Regionale Verkehrsgesellschaft Spreewald mbH, with initial branches in Luckau, Lübben and Lübbenau. The company is headquartered in Luckau and operates three main depots — Luckau (headquarters), Lübben (Spreewald) and Mittenwalde — plus five smaller operating sub-stations in Schönefeld, Teupitz, Dahme/Mark, Golßen and Straupitz (Spreewald). RVS directly employs around 256 to 280 staff and operates a fleet of 161 buses on 56 routes, carrying approximately 6.4 to 7.75 million passengers per year. Its network is divided into two zones, LDS Nord and LDS Süd, with central nodes at the former district towns: Königs Wusterhausen and Lübben railway stations and the Luckau bus station. In addition to regular scheduled services, RVS is contracted to provide school bus transport for the district. Since 1999 the VBB tariff (Verkehrsverbund Berlin-Brandenburg) has applied in the northern part of the district, and since 2002 across the entire district. RVS has introduced several branded service products, including PlusBus Spreewald lines from 2018 and PlusBus Airport-Region lines connecting Königs Wusterhausen with Berlin Brandenburg Airport from 2020. Night services and new route constellations have been added in the 2020s. The company is a private limited company (mbH) and is not publicly listed.
History
Regionale Verkehrsgesellschaft Dahme-Spreewald mbH was founded on 1 July 1991 under the name Regionale Verkehrsgesellschaft Spreewald mbH (RVS), with branches in Luckau, Lübben and Lübbenau. In 1992 the company established the Tarif- und Fahrplangemeinschaft Niederlausitz (TFG), introducing a common timetable and unified fare for the region. A new bus depot in Luckau began operation in 1994. In 1995 RVS increased its share capital from 50,000 DM to 2,000,000 DM and completed fleet renewal. The bus depots in Lübben and Lübbenau were modernised in 1996 and 1997. A significant change came in 1998 when the Lübbenau branch was transferred to Südbrandenburger Nahverkehr (SBN). In 1999 RVS began participating in the Brandenburger Unternehmensgemeinschaft ÖPNV (BUG), the Verkehrsgesellschaft Königs Wusterhausen/Zossen mbH was split with the Mittenwalde branch going to RVS, and the company was renamed Regionale Verkehrsgesellschaft Dahme-Spreewald mbH. A cooperation agreement with the Verkehrsverbund Berlin-Brandenburg (VBB) enabled the introduction of the VBB tariff in the northern part of the district. In 2001 RVS founded a subsidiary for driving services, NAN Busverkehr GmbH. In 2002 the VBB tariff was extended to the southern part of the Dahme-Spreewald district. In 2003 a heritage Ikarus 256 bus was delivered and made available for charter trips. In 2004 the newspaper "20cent" was introduced on buses, and timetable boxes for visually impaired people were installed at stops in Königs Wusterhausen, Lübben and Luckau. In 2005 passengers could for the first time obtain timetable information via SMS, and cashless payment by EC card became possible on buses. In 2006 RVS marked its 15th anniversary and the 5th anniversary of NAN Bus; the computer-aided operations control system (RBL) was officially commissioned. In 2007 the subsidiary NAN Service GmbH was founded. In 2008 RVS took over as general contractor for shuttle traffic at the Internationale Luftfahrtausstellung (ILA), modernised the Golßen sub-station and opened a new location at Schönefeld Airport. In 2009 a new reading service was introduced, with the Lausitzer Rundschau available as an on-board copy for ticket holders, and the bus fleet was comprehensively renewed. In 2010 cooperation began with BürgerBus Lieberose/Oberspreewald e.V. for lines 511 and 519, and the company's IT infrastructure was fundamentally renewed. In 2011 RVS celebrated its 20th anniversary. In 2012 the former subsidiaries NAN-Bus and NAN-Service merged into the parent company RVS. In 2013 interconnection points in Wildau and Uckro were commissioned. In 2014 the Märkisch Buchholz sub-station moved to Teupitz and the Dahme depot was relocated. In 2015 RVS strengthened shuttle traffic and took part in the first "Lange Nacht der Industrie" in the north of the district. On 5 July 2018 the first PlusBus lines (PlusBus Spreewald) were introduced: from Lübben (Spreewald) to Luckau (line 472) and to Burg (Spreewald) (line 500). Since 9 August 2020 lines 735 and 736 have run from Königs Wusterhausen to Berlin Brandenburg Airport Terminal 1-2 as "PlusBus Airport-Region". Also since August 2020 night traffic has been possible in the northern part of the RVS network, served via the Mittenwalde depot with line N36 (Mittenwalde – Königs Wusterhausen, Fontane-Center – Wildau – Miersdorf – Berlin Brandenburg Airport Terminal 1-2). In the second half of 2021 new lines were introduced, including the connection of Funkerberg in Königs Wusterhausen (line 730), the Niederlehme industrial estate (line 732) and the Zeuthener Winkel (line 731). In August 2022 RVS started a new route constellation in Mittenwalde, with Rangsdorf and Zossen each served hourly and Königs Wusterhausen three times per hour. On 1 September 2024, in cooperation with Busverkehr Oder-Spree, line 428 was upgraded to PlusBus (PlusBus Airport-Region) and extended to Königs Wusterhausen.
