Overview
Refugi d'Estany Llong is a mountain refuge in the Pyrenees, located at 1,985 metres above sea level beside the Sant Nicolau river, about two hundred metres west of the outlet of the Estany Llong lake, in the Vall de Boí, comarca of Alta Ribagorça, province of Lleida, Spain. It lies within the Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici National Park and forms part of the Carros de Foc, a 55-kilometre traverse that links all the refuges inside the national park. The refuge has 47 places and opens only when it is staffed; it offers showers, central heating and a fireplace, blankets and mattresses. When it is not staffed it closes, and the nearby free refuge of La Centraleta, with ten places, opens instead at the confluence of the Nicolau and Contraix rivers, one kilometre further down at 1,913 metres. Access on foot from Bohí by car to the Palanca de la Molina car park takes about three hours, since vehicle access on the track to the refuge is restricted because it lies inside the national park. The path passes the Aiguastortas plain, the Llebreta lake and the Aiguadassi meadows immediately before reaching Estany Llong. Taxis and bicycles can reach the Aiguastortas plain, less than 4 km from the refuge. The refuge is operated within the La Central de Refugis network, and its telephone contact is 973 299 545.
