Overview

Refugi de Saboredo (Spanish: Refugio de Saboredo) is a mountain refuge in the Pyrenees, located at 2,310 metres above sea level in the Saboredo cirque, a north-facing basin in the Vall d'Aran comarca of the province of Lleida, Catalonia, Spain. It sits on a ridge separating the Baish lake (2,240 m) and the deth Miei lake (2,280 m) from the higher Major de Saboredo lake (2,330 m), close to the Agulles de Saboredo peaks (2,626 m), at the head of the Ruda valley. The long-distance GR-211-4 trail passes through this area. The hut is one of the refuges on the Carros de Foc, a 55 km traverse that links all the staffed mountain huts inside the Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici National Park. On this route Saboredo lies between the Colomers refuge and the Amitges refuge, both reachable via the Port de Ratera (2,594 m). It is the smallest of all the staffed refuges within the national park, and the only one that holds an ecological refuge certification. Saboredo is owned by the Federació d'Entitats Excursionistes de Catalunya (FEEC) and the Conselh Generau d'Aran. It offers 18–21 places in a single dormitory with bunk beds, blankets and mattresses. When unstaffed it still provides 21 places with blankets, mattresses, a stove and an emergency radio; water is available outside from a fountain, and the hut runs on solar panels. The refuge is a base for ascents of the Saboredo (2,829 m), Ratera (2,858 m), Amitges (2,848 m), Gerber (2,749 m) and Bergús (2,843 m) peaks. Access is on foot or by mountain track. A track from Tredós or Salardú, also reachable from Baqueira, climbs past the Locampo bridge at 1,700 m, where vehicles must be left; the track continues to the pleta de Saboredo at 2,100 m along the GR-211-4, and then a path leads to the refuge, about two hours in total. On foot from Tredós the route takes about 4 hours 30 minutes. Another route starts from the Bonaigua road before the Port de la Bonaigua coming from Esterri d'Àneu, through the Gerber valley, past the unstaffed Gerber refuge and Mataró (2,476 m), over the Collado del Estanh Gelat (2,585 m), in about 2 hours 30 minutes from the Gerber refuge. From the Colomers refuge the walk is about 2 hours 30 minutes, and from Amitges about 3 hours. In winter, avalanche risk must be taken into account. The refuge's official website announces that it is preparing for the summer 2026 season and will open its doors on 6 June. It presents itself under the slogan "Calma integrada a la natura" (calm integrated into nature) and is set in the peripheral protection zone of the national park. Contact details listed on the site include telephone numbers 651 517 259 (Marc) and 0034 973 09 09 14.
