Overview

Refsvindinge Bryggeri (officially Refsvindinge Bryggeri og Maltgøreri I/S) is a Danish farm brewery located on a farm near Ørbæk on eastern Funen, south of Nyborg. Founded in 1885, it describes itself as Denmark's oldest family-owned brewery and has been run by four generations of the Rasmussen family. It began as a hvidtøl (traditional Danish malt beer) brewery, added its first pilsner in 1986, and later expanded into guldøl, ales and many other styles. The brewery is best known for brewing old Danish beer types that had otherwise disappeared, most famously the heavily smoked Skibsøl. Its most widespread beers are AZ Ale no. 16 and Mors Stout. AZ Ale no. 16 was named "Denmark's best beer" in 1997 and has since been ranked number one worldwide three times in a row by the World's Best Beer Awards. Mors Stout was named "Beer Novelty of the Year" in 2003 by Danske Ølentusiaster (the Danish Beer Enthusiasts). Refsvindinge offers a broad range of beers spanning light and dark ales, pilsners, wheat beers, bock, guldøl, porter, stout and hvidtøl. In cooperation with Thisted Bryghus it has recreated a series of sodas in seven variants. The brewery is known for its popular door sales (dørsalg), where customers can mix their own crate, and it also offers beer tastings, brewery tours and a beer, bed & breakfast experience in cabins on the farm. It remains a small, family-run operation with a strong local and tourist following.
