Redspot Car Rentals

Redspot Car Rentals is an Australian-owned and operated car rental company founded in 1989 by Dan Mekler, who started the business from a service station in Waterloo, New South Wales with two courtesy cars. The company describes itself as the largest independent car rental company in Australia and operates downtown, regional and airport locations throughout the country. Its rental fleet averages around six months old, and it offers a range of vehicle categories plus add-on products such as child seats and services including long-term or subscription rentals, roadside assistance and toll waivers.

Redspot Car Rentals was founded in 1989 by Dan Mekler, who started the business after seizing an opportunity to expand his service station business in Waterloo, New South Wales. He purchased two courtesy cars—a Holden Ute and a Ford Laser—and the rental operation began as a sideline to his workshop. The business quickly grew from two cars to 15 through local marketplace success. In the mid-1990s, Mekler opened a city office on Elizabeth Street in Surry Hills, Sydney, targeting tourism and hotel sector clients, and closed the service station part of the business to focus entirely on rental cars. The company grew into what it describes as the largest independent car rental company in Australia, with locations throughout the country including downtown, regional and airport offices.
