Overview

RBL.TV (originally launched as rebel:tv) was a Polish music television channel that operated from 14 December 2009 until 2014. It was owned by 4fun Media and distributed via satellite (Hot Bird, FTA), cable networks and IPTV, and from 2012 also streamed online through its official website. The channel replaced Patio TV and was itself replaced on satellite and telecom networks by Mjuzik.tv on 12 August 2014, though it continued online for a period. Over its nearly five years on air, RBL.TV went through three distinct programming formats. It initially broadcast rock, punk and metal music. In March 2013 the format shifted to urban music — primarily hip-hop, but also electronic music, indie rock, R&B and pop — and promoted urban culture broadly, including music, sport, fashion and lifestyle. By late 2013 the channel moved toward pop and hits, and in December 2013 most existing programmes were withdrawn, with the universal 'Hit Me' block taking over much of the schedule. From March 2014 the station no longer aired any presenter-led programmes. In August 2014 it returned to rock music. The channel's name was simplified from Rebel:TV to RBL.TV on 29 October 2012 following a legal dispute with a German station of the same name; at that time it introduced a modern graphic identity, a new logo and switched to 16:9 picture format. In September 2012 Michał Figurski became programme director. The station's programming included music blocks and charts such as 100% Rebel, 25!, Can I Kick It?, Deezer Chart Top 10, Fejs Czart, HH 20, Hit Me, Hitzone, Makakofonia, Muzyka Nowoczesna, Onet Top 10, Parszywa 13, Polska Rap Lista and many others, often co-created with viewers via SMS or social media.

History

RBL.TV, initially named rebel:tv, was a Polish music television channel launched on 14 December 2009. It was owned by 4fun Media and replaced Patio TV. The channel began by broadcasting mainly rock, punk and metal music. On 19 August 2010 an internet stream of the station was launched. In September 2012 Michał Figurski became programme director. On 29 October 2012 the name was simplified from Rebel:TV to RBL.TV due to a legal dispute with a German station of the same name; the station also introduced a modern graphic identity, a new logo and switched to 16:9 picture format. The rock format did not deliver sufficient viewing figures, so in March 2013 the station changed format to primarily hip-hop, along with electronic music, indie rock, R&B and pop. It also promoted urban culture broadly — music, sport, fashion and lifestyle. New programmes such as Polska Rap Lista, Muzyka Nowoczesna, HH20 and Serio enriched the schedule. Over time this format was also abandoned in favour of playing hits. Ultimately, in December 2013 most existing programmes were withdrawn, and from then on the majority of the schedule consisted of the universal 'Hit Me' block. From March 2014 the station no longer aired any presenter-led programmes. On 23 July 2014 it was announced that the station would cease broadcasting and be replaced by a new channel called Mjuzik.tv. The change took place on satellite and in telecommunications networks on 12 August 2014 at 12:00. However, RBL.TV continued broadcasting online via its official website, and on 20 August it returned to playing rock. Currently the internet stream no longer operates on the official website, but there is no confirmation of a definitive end to operations. The channel broadcast from the Hot Bird satellite in FTA mode, making it available to subscribers of all Polish digital platforms and to individual viewers with FTA satellite receivers. It was also widely distributed in cable networks and IPTV operators. From 2012 an internet stream was also available on the official website.
