History
Ramboll's history began in 1945, when two engineers stood on a roof in Copenhagen and decided to found their own company. In October 1945, the two young engineers Børge Ramboll and Johan Hannemann stood on the roof of the Technical University of Denmark looking out over Copenhagen. Having witnessed the destruction and suffering caused by the Second World War, they felt a strong urge to help rebuild society and shape a better future. Ramboll and Hannemann complemented each other perfectly: a visionary and humanist with excellent leadership skills met Hannemann, an extremely talented engineer with a flair for technical details. They printed a stack of business cards reading "Ramboll & Hannemann. Consulting Engineers." In 2020 the company marked a significant milestone: the first 75 years of Ramboll. In 2022 it was half a century since Rambøll, Hannemann and three other partners transferred the rights to Ramboll to a foundation, with the aim of ensuring Ramboll's lasting existence for the common good.
