Overview

Raiffeisenkasse Bruneck is a cooperative bank (Genossenschaftsbank) headquartered in Bruneck (Brunico) in the South Tyrol province of northern Italy. It is the largest Raiffeisenkasse in South Tyrol, with more than 150 employees and nearly 8,000 cooperative members. Its operating area covers seven municipalities of the middle Pustertal valley, home to roughly 32,700 residents, of whom more than 25,000 are customers. The bank operates a main office in Bruneck and ten branch and service points in Bruneck (Stadtgasse), St. Lorenzen, Pfalzen, Rasen, Reischach, Olang, Antholz, Percha, Ehrenburg and St. Georgen. The institution traces its roots to the South Tyrolean Raiffeisen movement, whose first local cooperative was founded in 1889 in the mountain village of Welschellen in the Gadertal. After the fascist dictatorship forcibly dissolved almost all South Tyrolean Raiffeisenkassen in the late 1930s, many were re-established after World War II, including those of St. Lorenzen and Rasen in 1962. The Pfalzen cooperative escaped forced dissolution. In 1973 the three cooperatives of St. Lorenzen, Rasen and Pfalzen merged to form Raiffeisenkasse Bruneck; they are still referred to today as the "founding cooperatives" (Gründerkassen). As a cooperative bank, Raiffeisenkasse Bruneck is owned by its members rather than by public shareholders, and it positions itself as a local, relationship-driven institution. Its service range covers accounts and cards, online and mobile banking through the Raiffeisen app, insurance and pension products, financing and credit, savings and investment, and dedicated offerings for children and young adults. The bank also provides private banking for affluent clients, commercial and corporate banking, and a range of digital calculators and tools such as loan checks, monthly instalment calculators, savings plan calculators, IBAN calculation and verification, and motor-vehicle insurance enquiries. In 2012 the bank formulated a formal service promise to its members and customers under the motto "MEHR.WERT.LEBEN." (roughly, "more value in life"), committing itself to creating sustainable value for individuals and the local community in economic, social and ecological terms. Its five stated values are trust, responsibility, honesty, appreciation and enthusiasm. The bank's guiding principle for 2030 states that it stands for far-sighted solutions serving the economic success of people and businesses in harmony with ethics and the environment. Governance includes a chairperson (Obmann) and managing directors (Geschäftsführer), and the bank maintains internal functions such as compliance and internal control, risk management, credit, marketing, people and culture, digitalisation and processes, and ESG.

History

The history of Raiffeisenkasse Bruneck is rooted in the South Tyrolean Raiffeisen cooperative movement. In 1889, the first Raiffeisenkasse in South Tyrol was founded in the mountain village of Welschellen in the Gadertal valley. This model of rural credit cooperatives spread across the region, providing financial services to farming communities. However, in the late 1930s, the fascist dictatorship forcibly dissolved almost all Raiffeisenkassen in South Tyrol. After World War II, many of these cooperatives were re-established. In 1962, new Raiffeisenkassen were founded in St. Lorenzen and Rasen. The Raiffeisenkasse in Pfalzen, however, had managed to escape the forced dissolution. In 1973, the three cooperatives of St. Lorenzen, Rasen and Pfalzen merged to form Raiffeisenkasse Bruneck. These three institutions are still known today as the "founding cooperatives" (Gründerkassen). Following the merger, Raiffeisenkasse Bruneck developed from a rural farmers' bank into a significant cooperative institution. Over the decades it grew to become the largest Raiffeisenkasse in South Tyrol, with more than 150 employees and nearly 8,000 members. Its operating territory now spans seven municipalities of the middle Pustertal valley, covering approximately 32,700 residents, of whom more than 25,000 are customers. The bank's main headquarters is located in Bruneck, and it maintains ten branch and service points in Bruneck (Stadtgasse), St. Lorenzen, Pfalzen, Rasen, Reischach, Olang, Antholz, Percha, Ehrenburg and St. Georgen. In 2012, the bank formulated a formal service promise to its members and customers, summarised under the motto "MEHR.WERT.LEBEN." This promise commits the bank to creating sustainable value for individuals and the local community in economic, social and ecological terms. The bank's guiding principle for 2030 states that it stands for far-sighted solutions serving the economic success of people and businesses in harmony with ethics and the environment. Its five core values are trust, responsibility, honesty, appreciation and enthusiasm.
