Overview

Radici Group is an Italian industrial group whose businesses span chemicals, polymers, engineering plastics, synthetic fibres and nonwoven materials. The company was founded in 1941 by Pietro Radici and is headquartered in Gandino, in the Bergamo area of northern Italy. Its operations cover several stages of the materials value chain, from chemical intermediates and polymer production through to yarns, staple fibres, technical textiles and engineered materials. The group’s chemical activities include polyamide 6 and polyamide 6.6 polymers, adipic acid, nitric acid, hexamethylenediamine, 66 salt and other dicarboxylic-acid products. These materials provide inputs for downstream polymer, fibre and plastics manufacturing. In plastics, Radici Group produces engineering materials based on polyamide 6 and polyamide 6.6, as well as copolymers and other families including PA610, PA510 and PA612. Its portfolio also includes polybutylene terephthalate, thermoplastic elastomers and polyoxymethylene. The fibre and textile-materials business produces a broad range of polyamide, polyester, PBT, PTT and polypropylene yarns, together with high-tenacity yarns and reinforcement materials for tyres and rubber products. Other activities include acrylic staple fibre, tow and top, and spunbond products based on polypropylene, polyethylene and polyamide. These products are used in apparel, sports goods, home furnishings, automotive interiors, filtration, airbags, hoses, belts, tyres, electrical and electronic equipment, appliances and synthetic turf. Radici Group expanded its industrial footprint during the 1980s, when Radici Chimica S.p.A. was established following the acquisition of a former Montedison production site in Novara. In 2011, the group acquired German producer dorix GmbH, formerly Selbitzer Chemiefaser GmbH, a business with roots reaching back to the nineteenth century. The acquisition strengthened Radici’s position in staple-fibre products, particularly PA6 staple under the dorix brand and polypropylene staple products marketed as reilen. The group exports its products internationally and serves industrial customers rather than operating primarily as a consumer-facing brand. Its integrated portfolio allows it to supply both basic and specialty materials for applications across clothing, furnishings, transportation, automotive, electrical and electronic products, household appliances and technical textiles. Since 2018, Radici Group has also been one of the principal sponsors of Atalanta, the football club based in Bergamo, linking the company to its home territory and regional identity.

History

Radici Group was founded in 1941 by Pietro Radici in Gandino, in the Bergamo province of northern Italy. From its regional industrial base, the company developed into a diversified materials group with activities extending across chemicals, polymers, plastics, fibres and technical textile products. Rather than concentrating on a single finished consumer product, Radici built a production chain supplying intermediate and engineered materials to manufacturers in several industries. A major stage in the group’s development came in the 1980s with the creation of Radici Chimica S.p.A. after the purchase of a former Montedison production site in Novara. This move expanded the group’s chemical manufacturing capabilities and supported its later integration into polymer and fibre production. The chemical portfolio came to include polyamide 6 and polyamide 6.6 polymers, adipic acid, nitric acid, hexamethylenediamine, 66 salt and related dicarboxylic-acid products. Radici Group subsequently broadened its plastics operations. Its engineering-plastics range includes PA6 and PA66 materials, copolymers and specialty polyamides such as PA610, PA510 and PA612. The group also produces polybutylene terephthalate, thermoplastic elastomers and polyoxymethylene. These materials are designed for demanding industrial uses and can serve sectors including automotive, electrical and electronic equipment, appliances and other engineered-product applications. The fibre business covers both textile and technical uses. Radici produces polyamide, polyester, PBT, PTT and polypropylene yarns, including high-tenacity grades. It also supplies reinforcement materials for tyres and rubber products, using materials such as polyamide, polyester, aramid and rayon, as well as hybrid constructions. Additional fibre activities include acrylic staple fibre, tow and top, together with spunbond products based on polypropylene, polyethylene and polyamide. The resulting materials are used in clothing, sports products, home furnishings, automotive interiors, airbags, filters, hoses, belts, tyres and synthetic turf. In 2011, Radici Group acquired dorix GmbH of Selbitz in Bavaria, Germany. The company had previously operated as Selbitzer Chemiefaser GmbH and had historical roots in Heinrich Reinhold GmbH & Co. KG, established in 1896. The acquisition added a specialist staple-fibre producer to the group and strengthened its European offering. dorix is associated with PA6 staple products marketed under the dorix name and polypropylene staple products marketed as reilen. Radici Group’s products are exported internationally and form part of supply chains serving apparel, furnishings, sport, transportation, automotive, electrical and electronic goods and household appliances. The group’s business model is therefore based on industrial integration and application expertise rather than direct-to-consumer branding. Its presence in Bergamo has also shaped its regional profile. From 2018, the company became one of the main sponsors of Bergamo-based football club Atalanta, providing a visible public association with its home territory.
