History
R&D Nester, formally the Centro de Investigação em Energia REN - State Grid, S.A., was created in May 2013. It is 50% held by the REN Group and was established with the purpose of creating a global and independent research and development centre with a multicultural DNA and long-term strategic thinking, innovating to contribute to the development of a smart, efficient, clean and sustainable energy system. Its activities are carried out through three interdependent guiding vectors: research, development, demonstration and innovation in energy systems; consulting services within R&D activities; and training services. The centre has developed research methodologies supporting transparent and consistent carbon accounting of electrical equipment used in energy systems, work carried out in collaboration with CEPRI (China Electric Power Research Institute), and presented two scientific papers at the 13th International Conference on Energy and Environment Research (ICEER 2026), held in Porto from 15 to 17 July 2026.
