History

Römheld & Moelle was founded in 1859 by Julius Römheld on the southern edge of Mainz, Germany. The company established itself as an iron foundry and operated as a family business for over 150 years. In 1906, the foundry relocated to the northern part of Mainz, in the industrial area near Schott AG and the Nordbrücke, where it remains today. The company specialised in large castings for mechanical engineering and automotive tooling, developing expertise in full-mould casting (Vollformguss) and later adopting 3D sand printing. At the end of 2014, as part of a succession arrangement, the family business was sold and ceased to be part of Römheld in Friedrichshütte. The company continues to operate as Römheld & Moelle Eisengießerei GmbH, serving customers in mechanical engineering, special-purpose machinery, and automotive tooling with a focus on large castings, delivery reliability, and transparent order tracking.
