Overview

Röders is a German family-owned industrial group headquartered in Soltau, Lower Saxony, with roots dating back to around 1814 when Jasper Roeders established a pewter manufacturing craft enterprise. Over more than 200 years and six generations of direct family succession, the company has evolved from pewter tableware and cask taps into a diversified technology group active in three main business fields: highly precise milling and grinding machines with automation, blow moulds for PET bottles, and pewter products. The company's machine tool division, often branded Röders TEC, is known worldwide for high-precision milling and grinding machines capable of tolerances down to the submicrometer range. A key differentiator is Röders' in-house development of controls, drives, and mechanical components, which enables ultra-low tolerances and maximum productivity. The machines are used in high-speed cutting applications for shortest machining times and serve industries requiring extreme precision, such as mould and die making, medical technology, and precision engineering. In blow moulding, Röders leverages over 50 years of experience to produce blow moulds for PET bottles, driving forward lightweight and low-pressure blow moulding technology. The company emphasizes short delivery times based on highly efficient production technologies using its own high-precision machines and automation. The pewter business, a historical cornerstone, continues to offer timeless and modern design with high quality standards. Röders operates from multiple locations in Soltau, including Scheibenstraße and Gottlieb-Daimler-Straße in the Harber industrial area. The company remains privately held and family-run, with long-term respectful relationships with employees, customers, and suppliers cited as the foundation for overcoming crises. Sustainability is highlighted through long product operating life, high efficiency, and recyclability. The group also includes a sister company, G.A. Roeders, which continues die casting and plastic injection moulding processes. With its combination of deep engineering expertise, in-house control and drive development, and diversified industrial portfolio, Röders occupies a niche at the high end of the machine tool and mould-making markets, competing globally on precision, reliability, and innovation.

History

The exact founding date of Röders is unknown, but it is generally accepted to be around 1814, when Jasper Roeders established a craft enterprise as a pewter manufacturer in Soltau, Germany. He produced pewter tableware for the citizens of Soltau and the surrounding area. His son, Georg Roeders, became known for tin figurines of such exquisite beauty that he was exempted from military service. Georg later achieved success in the production of cask taps, initially made of tin and later also of cherry wood. A subsequent Georg Roeders foresaw the introduction of the metric system and the litre measure in the German Empire (founded in 1871). He hired workers and craftsmen to mass-produce litre measures ahead of time, and the ensuing demand far exceeded production capacity. At the age of 21, Albrecht Roeders took over management of the firm because his father had suffered a serious accident. During the First World War, the company was forced to close down. Production of cask taps and the pewter foundry resumed in the 1920s. As casks and cask taps were increasingly replaced by bottles, the company began investigating the die casting process. The first machines for this purpose were developed in-house, and plastic injection moulding was added later. These processes are still continued today by the sister company G.A. Roeders. After closing down in the Second World War, the company rebuilt and expanded into new fields. Over the following decades, Röders developed its machine tool business, focusing on high-precision milling and grinding machines. The company invested in in-house development of controls, drives, and mechanical components, enabling ultra-low tolerances and maximum productivity. Its machines became known worldwide for precision down to the submicrometer range and for high-speed cutting that minimizes machining times. The blow moulding division grew out of the company's long experience in mould making, and today Röders supplies blow moulds for PET bottles with a focus on lightweight and low-pressure technology. The pewter business, though no longer the primary revenue source, remains part of the group and continues to offer timeless and modern designs. Six generations of direct family succession have led the company through wars, revolutions, empires, dictatorships, and republics. Entrepreneurial thinking and acting have repeatedly opened new business areas, securing the firm's continued prosperity. Today, Röders is headquartered in Soltau with multiple facilities, remains family-owned, and employs a workforce dedicated to precision, reliability, and innovation.
