Overview

Qwartz is a French shopping centre located in Villeneuve-la-Garenne, in the Hauts-de-Seine department of the Île-de-France region. Opened on 9 April 2014, it was developed and is managed by Altarea (formerly Altarea Cogedim), a major French real-estate group. The centre spans approximately 86,000 square metres of commercial space over two levels and houses around 165 shops, restaurants, a gym, and entertainment facilities. Its anchor store is a 12,000-square-metre Carrefour hypermarket. The centre also provides 3,000 free parking spaces. Before its redevelopment, the site was known as La Bongarde, a commercial zone that included a Champion supermarket and a Bazar de l'Hôtel de Ville warehouse-store, which closed in 2007. Altarea acquired the centre and rebranded it as Qwartz. In March 2015, Altarea Cogedim became the sole owner of the centre. Qwartz is situated in a triangle formed by the Quai du Moulin-de-Cage (RD 7), Boulevard Gallieni (RD 9), and Rue de la Bongarde, which marks the boundary with Gennevilliers. It is bordered to the north by the A86 motorway and faces L'Île-Saint-Denis across the Seine. The centre offers a range of services including free toilets, a reception desk, free parking, disabled access, a children's play area, phone charging stations, electric vehicle charging points, helmet lockers, ATMs, tax refund services, and photo booths. It hosts numerous retail brands such as Xiaomi, Yves Rocher, Histoire d'Or, and others, and regularly organises events and activities for families, including partnerships with Paris Basketball and children's workshops. As a shopping centre, Qwartz is a retail destination rather than a product brand. It is owned by Altarea, a publicly listed company on Euronext Paris (ticker: ALTA). The centre continues to operate and evolve, with ongoing updates to its facilities and tenant mix.

History

The site of Qwartz was previously known as La Bongarde, a commercial zone in Villeneuve-la-Garenne that included a Champion supermarket and a Bazar de l'Hôtel de Ville warehouse-store, which closed in 2007. The area was largely composed of vacant land and disused warehouses. In 2013, Altarea (then Altarea Cogedim) acquired the centre and undertook a major redevelopment, renaming it Qwartz. The new shopping centre opened on 9 April 2014 with 165 shops and 86,000 square metres of commercial space over two levels, along with 3,000 free parking spaces. Its anchor store is a 12,000-square-metre Carrefour hypermarket. On 23 March 2015, Altarea Cogedim became the sole owner of the centre. Since then, Qwartz has continued to operate as a key retail destination in the northern Paris suburbs, hosting numerous national and international brands and regularly organising events and activities for the local community.
